What if... Ahri's move speed boost only proc if it hits a champion?

The title says it all. If if only procs on champion hit, Ahri would need at least some skill to aim that at an opponent and give the same opponent a chance to catch up on her if he manages to dodge her Q.

The way it is now that is like Draven's bloodrush, giving her speed no matter where her skill hits. Her mobility is already pretty high, making it a champion proc seems like a more risk-reward style than guaranteed boost.

i kinda like the idea of having to aim it correctly to kite, but it would feel weird because the speed is now on cast while with this change it would be after it hits. maybe she could gain less speed but increase it if she hits a champ?

This makes her stronger against Melee (which she already is strong against) and weaker against ranged. Melee needs to be close to her, so she will get a speed boost sooner than against a ranged target.

The only problem with this is that she would often only get the speed boost once the orb hits max range, since you are typically trying to play keep away as Ahri.

It could work, but the speed boost would have to be better if you can only get it for half the time

This would be a horrible idea. Half the point of the speed boost is getting into position for the return, that's why the biggest boost is at the start.
