How to build CDR Shyvana post-Cinderhulk?

TakaDama··2 votes·3,411 views

Since Shyvana was one of the few tanky champs that benefited more from the 10% CDR of Juggernaut Enchantment than the improved wave-clear of Cinderhulk Enchantment, I've been experimenting with using different sets of jungle items, runes, and masteries for reaching 40% CDR with her.

Both Warrior and Magus are pretty meh with the reason to run CDR Shyv--her W--which scales with AD but deals Magic Damage. Warrior has more utility with her Q and AAs, but Magus also helps with up front E and Ult damage while also not requiring as much investment in runes, masteries, and other items to max CDR.

Any insights y'all have on the subject? Right now my build with Shyv is Stalker's Magus, boots, Visage, Randuins, tanky item #3, and either Liandry's (AoE DoT with W that synergizes with Randuin's) or BotRK (Another peel/engage/disengage to use in addition to Randuin's that synergizes with E's debuff), with 10% CDR from Masteries and Runes at level 18.

Just as I thought.. Bronze 5. Shyvana doesn't need CDR, all of her real damage comes from marking a target then auto-ing them over and over, using the double attack as often as possible (which cools itself down with each auto). Aside from that all you're really supposed to be doing is tanking, peeling, and being straight up annoying.

Ah: Silver 4! And someone who hasn't even used Shyvana it seems ... hmm ...

Anyhow, a few problems with your conclusion. First, W is maxed before Q to help with jungle clear times, so relying on Q to deal damage early on is just silly. Second, W has better AoE presence regardless of whether Shyv is in Dragon or Human form, making it much more viable for team fights.

Also, the point of CDR Shyvana is to constantly have W active as long as you are attacking, making her that much more deadly in team fights especially when paired with BotRK or Liandry's. While marking a target with E and then Qing and AAing them works well for single target damage, Shyv is gonna be in the middle of the fight, and needs both tankiness and AoE presence due to a lack of natural CC in team fights.

Yes Silver 4, and ENTIRE tier and division above you.. And I've played more than my fair share of Shyvana, just not recently since she's kind of a non-factor in the "mega tanks with cc" meta (Not really the point here though). CDR is just flat out not good, and building Magus just to get CDR is even worse. Her W damage is also not even close to the damage output of Shyvana with Devourer landing autos on someone marked with E (and guess what, you can still use your W during this!).

You're building wrong, if you want to pretend you're a Shyvana master and continue doing so, feel free. But if you want to better yourself as a player you might look into building properly. There's a reason everyone else on Earth builds the way we do, I promise you haven't stumbled on some secret build that's gonna revolutionize Shyv.

Let me rephrase then: you obviously haven't touched Shyvana at all recently, or have even explore different builds via the online community. No: CDR Shyvana is not a new discovery of mine:

Also building Devourer on any jungler is a liability (or so I've been told by Plat and Diamond Junglers) at higher tiers and divisions, as smarter opponents will begin counter jungling to deny you your "free" AA damage.

And no: not everyone builds the same way. In fact it's actually part of the game: counterbuilding is a thing, ya know? So is discovering new builds, as is encouraged when new items are released and old items are removed (otherwise, Udyr would have never evolved past the removal of Innervating Locket).

CDR Shyvana is bad, there's no way around it man.. anybody can put a build on Mobafire.

As for devourer, a few things; A) you're not diamond, so you don't really have to worry about what diamond players will do to you. B) Try to name a champ that can counter-jungle a Shyvana (the god of counterjungling).

And as far as your last point goes, that's all well and good, as long as you're not building Magus on ad scaling tanks... but wait.. you are doing that. The benefits of literally every other jungle item is better on her, yet you choose Magus just because of CDR. It becomes a liability at that point.

Why do you want 40% cdr on her? Her ult cools down with AS as does her Q. Also boots of lucidity, frozen heart, and 5% masteries would do the trick if you need them to.

SIayton1 votes

Flat CDR runes maybe? I run all CDR blues and 1 CDR quint for that 10%, then the 5% from masteries.

TakaDama1 votes

I run the 1 CDR Scaling Quint and at least 4 points in the Offensive Mastery tree for a total of 10% CDR at level 18. Though ... if CDR Scaling Glyphs have the same ratio as flat quints to scaling quints do, then, I may be able to find some some room for them.

Warrior still gives CDR. I sometimes prefer it over item 3710 Try this: item 3707(10% CDR)+item 3074+item 3110(20%CDR)+item 3111+item 3065(10% CDR)/item 3190 (10% CDR)+item 3143/item 3102

If you really want some AP, buy item 3025(10%CDR) instead of item 3065 or item 3143 but you'll lose some tankiness. Also, if you build it instead of item 3143, you'll have 10% CDR exceed.

True, but not as much as Magus (10% vs 20%). It's definitely one of the two best items now for CDR Shyvana, but I'm curious as to whether it is the best or second best.

Frozen Heart still gives 20% CDR.

cdr glyps give 15% at lv 18 + 5 from masteries + 10% from visage + iceborn gauntlet or 20 from frozen (fuck the mana, the items by themselves are already worth the money)

TakaDama1 votes

I haven't considered Iceborn Gauntlet or Frozen Heart yet, mostly Shyvana benefits more from Randuin's active. But I definitely like that they have more utility than, say, Spirit Visage ... gonna research some MR+CDR items to see if anything jumps out at me.

Seeing as her Q has its CD reduced much more by autos than by CDR, I still like Devourer on her.

well whatever slot you used to build sunfire cape you can now replace with a cdr tank item. probably ohmwrecker. too bad you can't really go frozen heart/ iceborn gauntlet due to the amount of investment into mana. otherwise all i can really think of is cdr boots and runes/mastery Check out my suggestion to possibly give us the option to build a 250/300 mana iceborn gauntlet: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/QsAVNLnb-riot-request-to-have-these-item-modifications-added-to-pbe-for-testing

This build is not always optimal but if you want to play CDR shyvana it is really fun and does a lot to fix her lack of CC.

Another important thing is please please please please stop building Magus and Frozen heart on Shyv. She does not have synergy with strong CDR items for a reason as a resourceless champ.

It's usually not worth. I've been experimenting with it recently. I got my cdr up to 15 with masteries and runes and while the change was noticeable, I was doing it in toplane for poking purposes. That wouldn't go as well in the jungle. Generally, you'll want to max your W or E first depending on what you're looking for. W for jung clear. E for champ dmg. Q will be last in most cases. As for cdr, you can use cdr glyphs, but I wouldn't go beyond that if you're serious about winning. Shyvana benefits more from atk speed which will lower her Q cd anyway. If you have BotRK and/or Hydra, the constant Q's with E proc and atk speed will melt faces -assuming they don't run away from you. :P

If you feel you must have cdr, Spirit Visage is something that you should normally build anyway. That'll give you 10. I normally don't recommend Zephyr over BotRK since the latter is far better in terms of dmg output, but Zephyr is useful if you already have a dmg item like Hydra. You should never rush Zephyr though. Honestly, forget I mentioned it.

That's really it. Good items on Shyvana tend to be these: item 3153 item 3265 item 3143 item 3022 item 3065 item 3156 item 3074 item 3068

Anything else is highly situational. Sometimes I've swapped Mercs for Swiftness/Alacrity or even Berserker/Furor. Mercurial Scimitar is also worthy of note in games where you're getting bogged down with cc. Personally, I believe Mallet should be a high priority in any Shyv build 99% of the time. Shyvana is about aa's. I wouldn't recommend even thinking about cdr builds unless you're looking at toplane, even then, it's not really necessary.
