In theory, shouldn't you inevitably climb from just playing a ton of ranked?

It sounds to me like luck plays a really huge factor in a lot of people's ability to get out of silver/bronze. So wouldn't your chances be maximized by just playing a lot? Eventually you'll get lucky and have a win streak that bumps you up, right?

The more you lose the less LP you gain, so no, not necessarily. The fun thing is if you win the majority of your games, you can still be stuck in the same bracket forever if you lose the games in the series. So technically you can have a crazy good win rate of like 4:1 and still be the lowest tier.

No you can't. If you lose 2 matches in your Promos, you need only 2 matches to get back into Promos, especially if you arrive there at a winrate of 4:1. So once you reach series, you can't stay blocked with a higher than 50% winrate.

Yeah, but you can dodge your promo series which drops you out of it and only loses you a little LP, not MMR. Bronzie the Bear was an experiment to exploit the leagues system. A "bronze 5" account that was in...Plat 1 I think? May have even been as high as Diamond 3 at one point, but he'd just dodge his promos every time and keep his rank, despite playing against plats and diamonds.

While technically true, this is relevant neither to OP nor to the comment I was replying to...

It really is luck based. Just gotta keep playing enough games where you go on a lucky streak where you don't have trolls/AFKers/Feeders on your team. You can climb to Diamond with a win rate of 30% if you go on a really long win streak.

you can carry your games if you play 1 tier above, ie if you're a silver player you can stomp all in bronze, but if you're silver 5 you can only stomp all through about bronze 3 or 2. there is some degree of skill in relation to adjacent tiers.

the worst thing you can do is to continuously play low ranking players, it gives you a false notion of how the game is supposed to be played when if you just land skill shots consistently and farm well you're already in high silver.

grouping as 5 and running down a lane together at 18~25mins is what gets you to gold.

no?

If win streaks are possible so are lose streaks

No. Because you'll get a corresponding bad luck loss streak before or after, and you'll stay at the same level overall.

Assuming ranked works, no.

The reason is this: If you win, you get to play against the winners. If you lose, you get to play against the losers. Since after many games, winning is not about luck, you are not able to win against the winners - let alone have a gigantic win streak - unless you yourself are a winner.

Getting out of silver, yes has a lot of luck attached to it. Due to smurfs starting their first matches in silver elo. You get a massive skill range that radically swings games in both directions. You can get that guy that is straight on his way to bronze 5, and the diamond 1 smurf in the same game.

Getting out of bronze, no. That's pretty easy if you're decent at the game.

I got dropped to bronze 2 initially and shot straight up to Silver...2 i think? I maybe dropped 2 games out of 30. Then I started encountering smurf after smurf and complete newbie after complete newbie. Since I dropped out of S2, I have never made it higher than Silver 3 because of mostly bad luck. "I never play ranked" End game: Enemy Zyra posts Twitch.tv account "Diamond smurfin' in Silver" is the stream title. Guy that obviously was banned for toxicity makes new account. Has learned nothing. Fresh 30 that's barely played the game at all.

well statistically speaking, eventually everyone to ever exist who plays league will climb out of bronze

Short answer: No.

Your mmr is set at a point, and it's up to you to lose or win to that point. Eventually your lp gain evens out and you can no longer make a profit lp gain just by going 50/50
