Olaf Jungle - Tips and Advice? Where does he stand in this meta?

Well, let me preface this by saying that I'm a bad player.

Last night, I tried Olaf JG for the first time and I really enjoyed playing him. When I went to look at champion.gg, I noticed he had a really low win% and was wondering if learning to play him was a good idea. I watched Worlds and saw him a few times. The most notable play was when (can't remember team) took Olaf, ulted into 5 champions fighting baron and he stole baron. That was when I was like, "Oh hm... that's pretty badass. Maybe I should try him someday."

I realize that Olaf has no CC and that he falls off late game. I looked at his win% after 25 minutes and it's atrocious. However, at my ELO/MMR, games don't typically last that long before somebody is already giving up.

And one thing that was really amazing was that Olaf easily solos dragons and rift early game if nobody on the enemy team pays attention. With dragons spawning sooner, he seems like a great pick into that kind of thing until I come across better players.

What I'm looking for here is some overview of when Olaf is a good pick and what to build on him. Because, honestly.... most of the stuff I've found on Google is outdated information. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places.

Thanks!

And if you look at my match history, yes I suck! I'm bad. I get it. People never fail to remind me.

he is really bad at the moment. he is seen play in pro as a full tank but that is combined into a team comp that synergizes together.

if you want to try to learn him this might help with match ups, items, runes,

  1. Dragons actually spawn later. They used to spawn at 3 minutes and then every 6, now it's 5 and 5. If you meant more often, that makes sense.
  2. Olaf is a snowbally mid-game champion. In order to keep his utility up, you can build things like Frozen Mallet to give him some more CC, and Spirit Visage to abuse his absurd W lifesteal ratio. Black Cleaver is also an effective item when combined with FM to make him super sticky. From there, you have a few options. As a jungler, you can have Cinderhulk and build Titanic Hydra to split push lanes and be a beefy threat when its time to ult in and terrify the enemy team, or you can build ravenous hydra and warrior enchant and split push lanes and force the enemy team to 2v1 you while the rest of your team fights a 3v4 game in another lane.

Right now there is vastly too much mobility, combined with an excess of damage. Olaf used to just ignore your pathetic poking while you tried to run - and basically outlasted you, caught you eventually, and beat your skull in.

Currently the pokes he used to shrug off take huge chunks out of him, so he tends to get kited to oblivion.

In lower ELO play, with practice, he can be a monster... but as you climb, and people know how to kite...

Like a few others, he is a dinosaur from the long long ago, in the before times, that relies on actual strategy that's no longer relevant.
