Hello, I'm a support player in gold. I'm not unique and have no special insight, though I'd like to share my thoughts on the current iteration of "supporting" in league. What I hope to accomplish with this thread.... nothing. Yeah nothing. I know these forums aren't the best place to air my grievances with the game, balance, or really any aspect of league you could address... but I have been stewing (read: seething) about change after change to my role and felt the need to express it with a "yell into the void"

it comes down to choice

In very early seasons, we had the choice between items and wards. I didn't mind sinking my money into greens and pinks when I knew the enemy support should be doing the same (even the era of junglers doing the same with oracle was something of a "trade off") -- It might have been good when they introduced sightstone, I was actually excited for this change, but what you did after this? fucking trash. You turned off choice here. now there's no main line stone (ruby sightstone) and you've given us ONE choice, every support MUST start support item, MUST advance it to their single choice of vision. There were great things about CHOICE between an activate Face of the Mountain, or the multiple versions you've had for the "mage" item; had ghosts that you've shunted to Twin Shadows, had slows - multiple versions- that ultimately got shunted to GLP.

really, what irked me most was the change of 350g to 400g. You were upset about supports getting three pots verses others who started doran and only got 1/2 pots? okay.... well now I don't have the CHOICE to start pots or refillable. This is the most recent transgression against choice.

regarding the DAMAGE in game: -When one mistake decides when you live or die? do you believe that professionals don't make mistakes? if you want true skill expression, you'd allow more plays to be... played. it should take 2/3 mistakes to die, even chunking someone out should send them back to base rather than killing them, situations that allow for leads to be created through skill - I think this is a lot of what professionals (like Scarra and Froggen) have lamented. The CHOICE of it is.... kill or be killed... and I don't think that's a healthy state for what "choice' means.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I play vel 'koz support, I'm one of the "bad guys", I don't think I'll change but I haven't been made to -- riot supports damage in the support role
