Riot it's time you gave a concrete explanation about the support role and OTPs in general
Following this thread in player behavior forum which literally has exploded overnight about a high elo nunu support OTP getting suspended... As well as what happened months ago with the singed smite support player also... Made me realize there's a larger problem here.
In the game we have the support role listed as support. Not adc support, not mid laner support, et al. Just the team's support. Now arguably the current meta (it wasn't always this way, mind you) is having the support player help the bot lane carry champ, however these two roles are not exclusive to each other as we have seen champs like bard released whom are designed for roaming (chimes spawn all over the map), as well as level one support invades of enemy jungle etc.
Now the crux of the issue here is that these players were banned (or threatened with permaban) for trying something outside of the box and "Meta breaking", etc etc. I'm not going to delve into the semantics of each ban and the controversy over them (I.e. Singed support player banned for "Not communicating" vs "not conforming"), let's just agree for the sake of argument that they were banned for doing something different that went against the "accepted norm" since they are one trick champion players and found a unique method to put their respective champs to use in the support role.
The issue we have is this: what is riots stance on the "Support" role within the game overall? Is support role ONLY allowed to be bot lane? I\are they exclusive to the "Carry" role player? If so, is there an official set time limit in lane? If they are the "team support", can we then take them to help a different laner instead? what if we want to utilize the support role to maximize a games win potential through a different and meta breaking strategy? E.g. Roaming counter jungler like the nunu support player with smite? I think you can see how things start to get hazy when we veer even slightly away from being stuck in bot lane babysitting another player.
Essentially the problem we are having with these players being banned is that they are One trick players utilizing the support role in an off-meta due to various exigent circumstances and not conforming to the (supposedly) accepted formulae of laning configurations.
Which brings me to the second topic of one trick players(ponies) aka OTPs; which is the question of are OTPs officially allowed by riot or not?
Remember that to play ranked you need 16 champs? Now in season 7 we have auto fill forcibly enabled, meaning that if, for example, you are a Riven OTP and select top/mid as your preferred role/lane, you still will eventually be forced to play something like support. Since inherently not all champions work well as support and not all support champions work as solo laners; this type of forced laning outside of the two preferred roles would negatively impact both the OTP and the rest of the team.
Since this effect may not only result in sub-optimal play of the OTP player, but also possibly cause a toxic/negative/problematic environment with the team as a whole, then perhaps some more strict guidelines regarding how many champions a player must learn how to play should be outlined.
TL;DR:
Should riot more clearly define the "support" role as exclusive to bot lane or allowed to roam/counter-jg, etc without fear of permaban because it's off-meta.
And, Auto fill discourages OTP play, so what is riots official stance on OTPs? Either make a stance against OTP players and enforce the learning of multiple champs before allowed to play, or disable auto fill and keep draft mode to the selected two roles (or bring back team builder).
