Soraka - E snare

It's one of the most difficult snares to hit, unlike Morgana's or Lux's "juke half of your HP"-snares and yet it only lasts half a second. Everyone can walk out of the silence circle without boots in time for the snare to not land.

Also tactically placed E's that actually hit, like when you run away from a group, are pretty much useless since as Soraka you will still get caught because the snare time is just too low to compensate for her standing still and doing the casting animation.

A 3 second snare instead (LIKE MORGANA'S OR LUX'S THAT ARE MUCH EASIER TO LAND HINT HINT HINT) would work much better and make her E be useful for a change. And it still would be as difficult to land as it is now, except that people who don't bother walking out of the circle would actually get punished for it. The fact that it is AOE doesn't matter much, since people are to avoid the circle, which is super easily done without boots.

A microsecond snare just doesn't do the trick when casting her E is a longer snare for Soraka herself.

Either that or give us back her mana heal pls.

Okay, first, Lux's snare is 2 seconds on the first target it hits, and 1 sec on the second target. Morgana snare is ridiculously long; in fact, besides Ashe ult at a certain distance, I think it's the long single CC spell right now. AND it's single target, so that compensates for the duration somewhat. Soraka's is preceded by an AoE silence, which is strong as is, and it roots depending on its rank. Max rank is a 2 second snare, just like Lux, and in a team fight people aren't always able to get out of it, so it can be hit relatively easily. Plus, the snare is AoE as well. In my opinion, it's strong as hell.

The Silcence doesn't even last 1.5 seconds unless the enemy player stays in the circle for that amount of time. The second they walk out the silence is removed so it might not even last half a second there. It is the most difficult snare to land on the enemies, you almost have no chance getting more than 1 or 2 successfull snares during laning phase, if even.

Having its snare time max'd at the skill level 1 is the minimum they could do.

You are vastly underrating the power of an instant AoE silence.

Riven diving your team? Drop a silence. You'll kill her before she escapes it(unless she's fed and just AA's you anyway). Katarina? Laugh your E key off. Anivia sitting in the back dropping R bombs? Slap a silence on her. Lee just Q's your ADC? Drop a silence and imagine him mashing his flash R. Amumu landed a Q? Silence > R. Akali on your ADC? Silenced. Zed? Silence Talon? Silence(if you're really really really quick) Fizz just Q'd your carry? Silence pool is a no pogo zone. Someone just landed a poro? Can't return to the king if you are silenced. Knife kitty is coming? Silenced Kha'Zix is rampaging? Silenced Ez being annoying? Silenced Gota flash to live but you know the enemy will follow you with a flash? Silence Fight at dragon and the enemy jungle is diving to Smite? Flash into silence! Pantheon ulting in? Silenced. Warwick pushed R? Push that silence. Lissanra's a coming? Silence the claw. Kayle's pissing you off? Silenced.

The flaw of the skill isn't the classes of champions it's highly effective against (Mages, AD casters, Ability based Asassins, etc) it's flaw is the single class it's not effective against at all.

Ranged Auto-attack specialists. Aka Marksmen, aka Attack-Damage-Carries

Silence doesn't impact these anywhere near as much as it does champions who need their abilities to function. And you'll be facing primarily those in the laning phase, unless their jungler comes in to gank.

Oh wait, their jungler is Rengar speccing AS+AD and he used his important ability before he jumped us anyway so he's still ripping us apart even if he's in a silence.

Silence is strong, but it's half-wasted during the laning phase because it won't be of any use versus half the opposition unless you land the snare, which is very short during that part of the game.

It's a good soft CC during the later stages of the game, though it has a bit short range, but it's the wrong kind of CC for the early game.

When i'm playing Soraka I don't focus on landing good Es during the laning phase. Because a good E won't really impact the fight enough unless I snare them as they're running away from us and it lands us the kill (or at least burns flash).

Though i'm certain there are good support-centric uses which i'm missing out on due to lack of skill and experience versus opponents. (I guess it might be a good counter vs Thresh's hook if it'll cancel it)

She's not intended to have strong CC. She's intended to be an amazing healer.

Even before her rework. Soraka did not win you lanes. She survived them. If you won lane, it was because of the ADC.

You still underestimate its strength. Silence blocks Flash and gap closers/escapes. A well-placed Equinox delays their mobility while also forcing them to move.

Or, in the case of less mobile ADCs, it delays their CC/long range offense.

It's not useful in a straight-up face-tank duel, but that doesn't happen unless you're dealing with a pair of bruisers.

I expected as much really since i'm not a very experienced player, and mainly do co-op vs AI still.

I think that E is a bit too soft in laning though, I don't want Soraka to have any actual strong CC.

It might be (okay it probably is) my lack of skill in knowing when and where and how to land them impactfully vs what kind of opponent (including which carries have which kind of abilities). But it feels kind of unreliable in lane, it's a good zoning tool, but it doesn't feel like something I can count on being a good effect to put down when I want to disengage or stop them from disengaging.

I'd love some general tips on good situations to use it in though.

And I wonder if building Rylai's Crystal Scepter makes the snare component easier enough to land to be worth it (especially given the extra health it also gives).

Soraka doesn't need any buffs lol

It's already got broken zone control with the silence.

Giving the ability some innate slow would make it a lot better. As would a soft rework which makes it collapse more quickly (not too quickly but enough that you can actually try to land the snare) and making the silence persist on snared targets for the duration of the snare.

She doesn't need a stronger CC, she needs a more reliabel way to use the one she has.

The snare lasts long enough for a centered Starcall, which would give you a larger escape gap.

But that would require thinking about what you are doing.
