its harder when 99% of the time teammates other then the jungler don't ward as much and they aren't used to having to play behind someone else.

Easy, but not always satisfying. To each to his own. Besides, not everyone (I've learned) has a real support.

Because fewer people main it and a lot are probably autofills. Why? IMO:

Tanks/Catchers don't often work so well in solo queue since they tend to require more coordination with your team. Initiate and don't get proper help and you're dead.
Mage supports are feast or famine. Get ahead early and stomp. Fail to do so and you mostly feel useless the rest of the game.
Enchanters are currently very strong at keeping the ADC alive, but are incredibly squishy and as a result feel very one dimensional in their gameplay.
