Can people please stop playing mid laners as supports. It's not fun for anyone except for the support. Like for instance, these champions 
. I see these being used as a support so often, and yet they aren't supports. They might have one ability that provides cc, but that's it. Sincerely, a support main who's fed up with AP supports.
Anastaecia3 votes and are "support" as secondary roles. And Karma has mostly been used as support for a long time. BTW, she has 2 ccs and a shield (all of which can be buffed by her ult)...sounds like a supp to me. And Lux also has 2 ccs and a shield. She isn't used as supp much atm, but months ago, she was mainly used as such. Things change. Even champs that were introduced as one thing are now mainly another. Kindred (adc), Graves (adc), Ivern (supp), are all jgs as an example.

Also, Lux support is bad. It only bullies tank supports, but tank supports are generally rubbish atm anyway.

The bottom line is you are trying to win the game, if an AP supp gets it done, so be it. They aren't played enough to make it a thing. Perhaps the OP gets unlucky and plays against more than avg.
As far as Lux (or any other champ in any other role)....it's real easy to talk about this champ beats that champ or group of champs....that is if you are pro. Most of us can get away with off meta stuff because the surprise of it is usually enough to throw off the opponent for simple lack of game knowledge.

Need Gold 4 Tent2 votesagain, back to the point. they support by removing the threat from the battle field. more exactly, remove them from the battlefield and send them back to the fountain. Or they just remove half of the hp of a target so the carry can take the other half with a single autoattack. That happens with my AP Malphite when my damage just barely falls short of a 100-0, although for most part I get the kill when the target isn't at full hp.
That's no different from a Leona chain stunning the target or a Janna keeping the target away from the carry. And besides that, they do this while also being capable of minor peel/disruption/enchants. they are supporting, except in a way that is not commonly accepted by the community.
One might think a support isn't supposed to do damage, but damage can be a form of support. Else, why does every single champion in the game do some form of damage? There is not a single champion in the game that has no damaging ability, even the most supportish of supports like Soraka.
Lastly, as long as they help with the warding and ward clearing, peel when needed, have the attitude of a support, they will still be supports. 
can be a support, if she plays like one and I'm sure you've seen games where
