The second the updated started, and took as long as it did I know something would be bad. I usually don't really hate any updates riot posts, I always see it as a fair, objective standpoint and understand all nerfs buffs and item changes. However this update is probably the one and only update that makes me want to quit this game, never come back, and just play some other game for fun. I main support, I love it, its the only reason I still play the game to this day, Then this absolute garbage update came and ruined support in my opinion. The first thing I notice as I join a teambuilder and start a game is the cool border, and I thought they were pointless and I had a even worse feeling about this update. Then I look at the starting items and I see the weirdest thing in the world. No mana potions, and a garbage starting item set for soraka. It looked like it was made for some random new champion I've never seen before. I then typed in "Mana Potion" and to my suprise, not there! I also noticed that blue trinket, sword of the occult, and green wards were missing in this pile as well. So I played the game normally and on first back I get a sightstone, and it has 3 stacks, this is fine, but you really are screwed if your like me and enjoy staying in lane for a long time and stack on green and keep that last sightstone charge and just have a blast. NOW THAT STRATEGY IS OUT OF THE WINDOW AND YOU HAVE TO GO BACK EVERY 5 FCKING MINUTES. Then I notice another ancient coin upgrade, for only the price of ALMOST 3 SIGHTSTONES YOU CAN GET A FCKING 4th CHARGE AND GET A SMALL GOLD BENEFIT WHEN YOU CAN JUST GET A RUBY SIGHTSTONE FOR MORE THAN HALF THE PRICE. So obviously I didn't buy that upgrade and stuck with the old ancient coin upgrade and I pretty much rant the rest of the game about how ridiculous this update is to supports, it literally makes all different play styles SH*T and you have to play as a single play style THE PANSY ALWAYS IN A CORNER BECAUSE YOU CAN WARD OR ELSE YOU HAVE TO GO BACK TO LET YOUR ADC 1 v 2 BOT LANE FOR ANOTHER 30 SECONDS SO YOU CAN OVEREXTEND WITHOUT GETTING GANKED, ITS SOOO BORING TO GO BACK EVER 3 MINUTES BECAUSE YOU WANT TO GET MORE WARDS AND YOU CANT JUST USE GREEN WARDS WHILE YOU FOCUS ON OTHER THINGS, I've NEVER BEEN THIS MAD ABOUT AN UPDATE IN MY LIFE, I WILL quit league of legends if any more updates do this same exact garbage, It really is killing the game for me. And don't tell me to just play another role as there is nothing like support, I would rather quit the game than play another role, it ruins the fun of the game and focuses on a more animated play style of the average support so anyone can play support now and it doesn't require any strategies because there are no viable ones anymore because you rather waste all your gold trying to get a fourth stack and be able to ward slightly well or just be stuck with a single full warding trip and then you are screwed, Also I know there are the new trinket but I don't want to wait a million years just to get another charge, when I was able to simply use green wards when sightstone wards ran out, and late on id just upgrade my trinket so I can ward without greens. Now I have to pay twice the money just to have a half assed warding plan going down and you have no strategic plans for warding. Sorry for this mountain of hate, I just am really, really, really angry at this game right now, as it just ruins my enjoyment for the role that kept me in love with this game and just see it get thrown out of the window for the majority of the playerbase with the carries. It's not cool and riot should respect support mains just as much as any other role because you can't just have one without the other, or I suppose they can just fcking get rid of support role and just have a double adc bullsht going, not like the majority will care, they will just not think of it and just ruin the game for me.

As a support main, I'm on the fence. The update is such a mess how can one possibly isolate one feature as good or bad?

I agree, the update is really broken,

  1. Champs who rely off crit chance can basically heal off each attack
  2. Yasuo can get 100% crit chance without runes and only with 2 items!
  3. Tryndamere can solo baron with death's dance, blood thirster, and the crit chance keystone.
  4. Katarina, kennen, and akali are capable of dominating over resource champs in the mid lane because of the "Death fire touch" and how the need no mana.

I don't particularly like the Sightstone charge reduction but the rest of your complaints really are just "THIS THING IS NEW? I HATE IT!". Mana pot removal is not a huge problem, I've played Soraka and Sona support + Syndra mid today and have not really felt like I needed a mana pot at any point. That's fine.

And Eye of the Oasis is a fine item. Don't know what you are talking about saying Eye of the Oasis is more than double the price of Ruby Sightstone when the former costs 2200 and the latter costs 1800. EOTO, just like the other 'Eye' items, has very legitimate advantages involving slot efficiency but it even has strong core advantages over Talisman of Ascension because it gives you much stronger sustain in HP and mana.

The vision changes I don't care for. Everything else is good for supports. Stop raging just because things are different and you weren't expecting it.

EDIT: Have you even set up any mastery pages? You might not miss the mana potions so much if you had.

Supports are in better shape than mages, they threw us mage mains into the shark tank, and no not even Fizz can get out of this one.

AD is way too powerful even prior to 5.22, this just highlights that point even further...

As a support main I'm already enjoying the changes.

If you're good enough as Raka you need at most ONE mana potion, and that's enough to sustain you for up to 10 minutes into lane. If you need anything more than that, and you're not against an aggressive lane you're doing something wrong. It's almost unnecessary to stack on greens when you can simply rush sightstone first back, unless you somehow couldn't farm up enough gold.

You obviously didn't choose Windspeaker's Blessing where your heals and shields are stronger, PLUS 15% damage reduction for 3 seconds...

The goal of the update is generally to get people to ward less. Less wards are fun. You can focus more on being in lane and roaming and stuff.

Actually, I feel the opposite of the changes.

I feel like Sightstone having reduced charges should be easily manageable if you are cooperating with your ADC to cover gaps in time. And honestly, if you are still in laning phase, there is no reason you can't have a Sightstone and the Yellow Trinket. You should be able to stay in lane as long as you like after first back if you are cycling wards in crucial areas with the new Yellow Trinkets from both of you and your Sightstone. Vision Wards are also a great pick up first back (i usually get two if I can on my first back). I'm not sure where you are prioritizing your vision, so I can't really provide any insight, but you may be trying to get too much coverage area.

And as for backing, you really do want to be doing that regularly to ensure you and your adc are not falling behind in terms of items.

As for the mana pots, I really haven't noticed much of a change as a support with it, but I also am not playing many supports like Soraka that have spells they want to use outside of reactionary purposes.

Mind spacing that wall of text up a bit? But yeah the new system sucks a bit, but since at level 9 everyone will have 2 wards instead of 1 now it balances out. The game is trying to make the jungler more important than just ganks. More jungles now adays are buying a sightstone and sweeper. With the removal of pinks however, it will be a bit suckish.
