Having a Poppy in game changes the dynamic of Champ select

I'm finding that I'm asking myself, "Should I pick a champ with a dash if there's a possibility of a poppy in game? Is an Iriella worth grabbing over a darius if Poppy can counter my engage? Graves/Caitlyn are popular and strong right now, but with poppy negating their mobility escapes, should I even risk it?

I think this is a good addition to the game; there is now an inherent risk associated with picking a champ who's power is partially defined by mobility.

Meh. I'd still play Lucian even if I saw a poppy support. Yeah sure her w is unique and nice but for its low range and for how long it last it feels like a modified wind wall. Not really changing if I pick a ziggs into a yasuo but still an ability to be aware of. Maybe ziggs isn't the best example considering a good yas should beat a good ziggs but you get what I mean.

tried poppy and did some experiments with some friends and casually descovered that W stops:

Kaslita's Passive 2/4 of Lee Sins Kit Thresh lantern 2/4 lee sin's kit Yasuo Dash Did i mention that she counters Lee sin?

Gonna try and main her, fk mobility creeps.

It's as if Azir wasn't a champion or something.

Look how impactful his anti-mobility spell was for the game.

Dynamic of champ select? Does that even exist?

I've been playing rengar recently and whenever they see me coming with "!" The enemy squishes just huddle around poppy, it's been a struggle that my 140 second gapcloser can be shut down like that, but It's been fun,

New poppy brings a nice niche to the game as an anti dive defender

I was backing in a bush top lane (I was support Poppy and had gone there to look for a gank opportunity) when their Nidalee hit me with a spear and jumped on me, I walked slightly away from the wall, E'd her into it, and then turned on my W. Nidalee tried to pounce over the wall and got knocked back and then our Irelia killed her.

Satisfaction...

I just started practicing, but so far I'm not too crazy about the R channel, because 1. it's not too hard to interrupt. 2. I like quick casting 3. it's easier to send the whole enemy team off than to pick 1 or 2 off, which does basically nothing unless you wanted to disengage. it has some bard-ult mess up potential

Poppy changes nothing.

Her W's CD is 24/22/20/18/16 seconds.

It's also her Movespeed steroid, and when it goes off deals almost no damage and only stops dashes, not blinks (like Veigar wall).

If she's using it purely as anti-engage/peel, a dozen other champions do that job better, particularly from the support role. The only time it gets great use is when she is able to engage without needing her W move speed steroid and then using it reactively, in which case a good Thresh with flay is as good anti-mobility as her W.

The ability is overhyped and fairly mediocre with limited use, talk about her ultimate if you want something truly interesting.

I honestly think poppy is very balanced and fun to play as and against her.

Is Poppy REALLY changing anything?

The revelation you describe here is that Poppy is adding an anti mobility risk to top lane, but how didn't this exist previously? There is and always will be hard counters to anyone you pick, and you always had this same risk picking a champion out in fear of being countered.

And let's think even if Poppy stops someone top lane with her W she has no way to follow up with it, her W is short ranged and she STILL has to get closer to you to use her Q and it's not like it still can't be dodged or someone like Riven just uses the other 2 dashes she has left.

Her E still requires you to hit them into a wall, and no one with half a brain is going to make it easy for you to do either.

I still think Poppy rework was a success but I don't think she has changed much of anything.

Sadly Poppy's only use is her W now. Rest of her kit is so bad (except the E ofc it's the same)

Ofcourse. Besides that Poppy's dash shield is pretty hard to time.

Fun, I actually believe poppy to be more tailored to being a support than a top laner now. Alas, the only lane I'm playing her in is support. The only "falible" part of the plan is having no reliable engage unless the enemy badly misspositions, but then again, I'd say a Poppy's support role falls into the "Peeler".

I've already saved my adc countless times by clearing an escape path through the enemies with a full charged hammer, I've secured double kills by lightly tapping R and knocking both of them for 2 seconds into the air. W is a great peel tool aswell. If they try to get close with a dash, that's over, you just have to time it well, if they run at your adc... well, "kite".

And if you do happen to catch someone, you have somewhat reliable securing tools in all of your kit. The lane control is immense, the fear of suddenly being left in a 1 v 3 because your support was knocked away is something very very scary.

how does poppy negate caitlyn's net....? Any time a champion has a key ability that can change a fight you have to either be patient or bait it out before you engage..nothing has changed about league or champ select...you still have to think before you click buttons.

aítch12/10/2015, 6:43:40 PM2 votes

is it just me or am I finding that if I have to ult I'm already dead and I can never really cast it and even if I do it is mroe of a finisher? Like I guess it is because I go full ad mid poppy but hey

Annapii12/11/2015, 6:55:01 AM1 votes

Counterpicking.

What you just described is counterpicking.

lol.

Its not something that's unique to Poppy- Its like deciding not to play Amumu into Janna.

I've been slammed from dragon back to wolves against Poppy, after which they isolated my carries and collapsed on them if I was a tank or assassin, or sent me out of the fight where I did zero damage as a carry.

It's pretty crazy how it works as a major zoning tool. Poppy might be a bit overtuned right now in terms of damage tho.
