Returning player, wanting some advice on who to play

So im trying to get back into the game and im trying to choose a handful of champs to get re-acclimated with. I have never liked, or been good, with autoattack champs, and while I do like mages..im not sure I want to tackle mid lane, or be so flimsy that some minor mistakes will spell doom.

Essentially im wondering if I could get some recommendations on good "caster bruisers" that can be played Top, or in support roles. Jungle possibly as well, but like mid lane, im not sure I want that kind of responsibility just yet.

Back when I played, champs like Cho'gath, Garen, Nasus, Riven, and Pantheon.. would be the types I would gravitate towards. Champions that use abilities over autoattacking.. and have some capability at range, or the ability to close distance quickly. These 5 are on my list to try out again, but I know there have been some new champs added, and some reworks, and new items and such that I still need to learn about. Id like to try something new, SO!.. anyone have any suggestions on who I might like?
