Katarina build?

Katarina has some pretty crappy AP scalings, but some decent ad ones. So why not build hextech gunblade and Bork? I saw the milk build for katarina, with a few trolley items, but I think building some hextech and Bork would really work. Thoughts?

Why not Gunblade: AoE means she benefits less from the spell vamp than single target champions and doesn't really lower the CD of the active like people like Akali do. In terms of slot efficiency, it pretty much has to replace either Void Staff or Zhonya, both of which have a lot more impact on her damage. Her best non-ult dmg is Q and it has no AD scaling.

Why not BorRK: Because you are not an auto-attacker. You are an AoE assassin who's reset-focused and deals the vast majority of her damage via spells.

AD Kat used to be a thing when she had full AD scaling with magic damage output. Ah, those were the days.

Anyway, if you want to go for a hybrid or AD Kat, you don't want BotRK. Blade has a mediocre amount of AD but makes up for it with a strong on-hit effect; Kat does not proc on-hit effects with any of her abilities and so you'd have to be AA-ing in melee range. Instead, you could go for a Bloodthirster for the raw AD, and you could potentially build up a shield off minions before going into a fight. Even then, you're only getting the AD benefit off her W and R, so its overall much less effective.

AP Scaling: Q Primary Target & Mark (0.6 AP) W (.25) E (.25) R Full duration (2.5)

Total AP: 3.6 AP

AD Scaling: W (0.6 Bonus AD) R Full duration (3.75 Bonus AD)

Total AD 4.35 Bonus AD

Sounds like a lot, except that it is only bonus AD (So only the AD you get from items or masteries, not your base AD) and having to split up your damage like that makes penetration less effective for its given damage type. In addition that damage output is much less reliable since almost all of it is coming from the R, and its pretty uncommon to be able to get your full R duration out without someone either killing you, interrupting you, or just walking away. If that wasn't enough, W and R both require you to be in fairly close range, which means you have little to no ranged harassment

Gunblade Kat is legit.

Botrk Kat is not.
