Does DUOQ inflate someone's rank/mmr?

I am genuinely curious because I've been playing a lot of normal games, and I've looked at everyone's op.gg (I'm a stats nerd lol). I've noticed a trend were there's a duoq. One player will be extremely good at utilizing carry champions, and the other player will be on par with the rest of the enemy team or worse. In their ranked matches, the same story plays out and they end up hitting plat. Is that a trend? Is there a lot of people in Plat that are not supposed to be there?

Sort of. Duo queueing means that your friends rank gets factored into the match-making algorithm. And the experience of a few players seems to suggest that you do have a greater likelihood of being paired against a slightly more difficult group than you would if you solo.

As for the Plat comment, well, it is true that there are people who have been helped in getting to their desired ranks by stronger players - usually it's gold but plat boosting is not unheard of. Hopefully the new ranked system can and will make it a little bit harder for such actions to occur (or at least give them a sustained position at that status).

As a side note, in a recent post in the dev blogs, Riot did indicate that both booster and boosted accounts if detected may be penalized. But I'll wait and see how successful Riot is on following through on that threat before passing judgment.
