I frequently play in jungle and am trying to rank up
just wanna know if Amumu is worth picking up he looks pretty fun and his ult looks like it has a big impact, is he viable in ranked?

Amumu is definitely worth, especially for 450. Any time I see him on the enemy team, I just want to stop playing entirely
I main Amumu in the jungle. He is great. One thing I will tell you is that it's all about timing. Your team has to work with you in a successful team fight. Basically his damage is pretty great with a few items and he is a great tank. He's easy to learn, you just gotta know when to engage. If you only ult there tanks and front line you will get demolished. But using your grab into the middle of the team and locking them all down is a great feeling. Especially when you have a lux or Malphite ult at the same time. For what it's worth here is my build on Amumu and I've had some great luck with him. I get blue enchanted jungle item (I go for chilling smite personally), then an abyssal scepter for the extra AP damage and MR, then boots of mobility for flying around the map, frozen heart for the cool down, armor and mana, warmogs armor for the health and sustain and then depending on the enemy team I rock a randuins omen or a banshees veil (respectively). Give him a try he's great. A lot of fun and easy clears.
I only have amumu so I can hover him, giving him a glimmer of hope just to switch to a real champion at the last second!
Yepp. Definitely. Think annie. AOE ultimate that sets up for great teamfights. Easy to use, and quite rewarding. I'd say go for it, mumu is a pretty good jungler imo
His early game is terrible but his team fighting is very good.
amumu is unquestionably worth the pick up. I decided once to pick him up because he was cheap and soon realized he is insanely powerful. In fact, he's actually almost broken. The only problem is that all his value comes in his ult. Without it you lose a lot of strength. that said, early game is simple. Dont gank til 6 unless you have to because his Q isn't that great and can be dodged. As his only form of pre 6 hard CC I caution against using it to get ahead with ganks. Rather, just farm and when you hit 6 gank bot lane. If you miss the Q then you can still pull off a an ult and hold down the enemy adc and sup. This will give your team if not 1 then 2 easy kills. Late game group for a team fight and the same thing works insanely well. Because amumu has an entangle in his ult, not a root, he stops the enemy ADC from aaing. Without the ability to aa for a whole 2 seconds your team will completely out damage theirs and win the game. I have won many games based on this fact alone.
He's always been extremely strong, and his "bad early game" that people are going to constantly bring up is completely exaggerated.
He has issues with early invades (dueling), but he has strong ganks, strong teamfighting, and a flexible build path.
Definitely worth.
hes definitely worth playing, tho hes one of the harder champions to play so get ready to practice alot.

He is incredibly boring to play. He is good for getting out of Bronze where people like to play ARAM midlane 10 minutes in but once you get to an elo where people know how to bait out his ult, splitpush against him, push up their frontlines etc.
In short, yes.
I carried myself from bronze 3 to gold 3 with amumu, but that was back in the tank meta so..... I personally love him and he's pretty simple <3
Yeah, he's great at turning fights and if played correctly an adc's worst nightmare. Just be careful because he has bad early pressure and if the enemy jungler knows what they're doing they'll be taxing your jungle(probably not killing you but just pushing you off) and ganking your lane from behind. But if you stick it out he's great in teamfights and as I mentioned can actually kill an adc all on his own without any hope for them of escaping until they buy a qss.
As long as you get your own first blue, he's one of the strongest junglers in the game both pre- and post-6. Hunter's potion was a huge buff to him, since he's mana hungry and it can give him some sustain. He and Zac are probably the most flexible junglers in terms of builds, since they are designed to be tanks but have good enough scaling to be viable off-tank or pure AP.
Amumu is incredible, great all around champion and rarely if ever gets touched by the balance team. Great win rates low skill floor but a low skill ceiling as well so be aware of that.
AMUMU IS AMAZING. OUTRIGHT AMAZING. He is surprising good at clearing and ganking
Have seen some diamond/challenger players stream Amumu games, and he seems to do quite well in preseason. That's only a small sample size though. Take it with a grain of salt.
he is worth if you have some patient and knowledge how to gank/counter jungle...
amu is one awesome jungler at after 10 mins...

Amumu is is a Bull and can play two categories effective.
Pure Tank or AP monster
If your tame has enough tanks you can build full AP.
Hard to play with but when you master it can melt opposing teams in team fights.
Your ult can do around 500 AoE dmg. Your Q can do about 500 DMG. Your E can do about 500 DMg.
Flash out watch team take care of rest.

He's very viable in ranked. You never fall off, you only get stronger as the game goes on. He can be built in many different ways (full AP to delete squishies and tankbust, tanky ap with abyssal and liandrys and rylais and zhonyas to reach about 2.8k hp and over 100 in both resistances while still doing damage, full tank and being near unkillable) and he has really good clear for a tanky jungler. He's also rly cute c:
I recently got a Pentakill as Amumu. I don't even play him that much, I only do when I'm sad.
Its honestly fun to build Tank AP and just press W and run around people. It was the easiest Penta ever lol.

Amumu is great. The first time I played him was at a tournament at my college my jg tanks were banned out so I picked Amumu. I went like 3/3/27. Hes really strong especially if you get ahead.
some high rank junglers recommend amumu in low rank games to get out of silver,bronze,gold.... but in high rank he's not a worthy pick since people there know to play around him
imo he's awesome, of all the tank junglers that i play he's the one i love most (sorry skarner),
just build tank cinderhulk and the recommended ap items are 
max w-e-q, in case you want to gank more, you're snowballing, want to have a huge presence in lanes max w-q-e
iirc amumu has always been really good in the lower ranks from like bronze to mid gold, due to his massive aoe damage and strong ganks along with his ult being able to almost single handedly win teamfights for his team.
