Is Taric rework meant as a nerf? Or just to freshen him up so more people will play him?

So as someone who just started maining old taric support I feel pretty sad about some of these changes. I can see how his new kit will make him a good support, maybe even a popular one but current taric is just so good right now IMO. I never really gave taric a thought in the support role before and I don't see anyone play him so you just think he's bad or sub-par right? Then one day I got him in aram and found out about the monster that is current taric. He is the ultimate support lane bully. It's kind of crazy how good he is right now because no one is playing him! The reason why I think he is a great support before the rework has a lot to do with how marvelously he takes hits and deals damage. Unbeknownst to most, taric can actually have an unexpected amount of burst. If the enemy adc gets cocky and oversteps or underestimates what taric can do he is either dead or down 50 cs from being bullied. So if this rework is because they think he is currently op i could understand this as a nerf but I don't think that is the case? I thought it was because he was underplayed and they wanted to freshen up his appeal more or something. Even with the new passive double fast aa or whatever taric just lost a ton of damage and got, in my opinion, what looks to be a shittier ult. So sad for this to happen a month or so after I started playing the monster support taric. RIP I mean how many champs do we need with practically this same ult? Bard and kindred are both new and do similar things (yeah i know there are differences and this one might be the strongest one yet), I just don't want that situation utility i want his damage back. So is current taric considered largely to be OP and is just not played and banned or is it like Sion and they just wanted to reinvigorate interest in him?

Well just going to solo que taric till the the changes I guess :(

Keep in mind the goal here is not really to make his stronger (or weaker, for that matter). It's to make his abilities clear for both allies and enemies while giving Taric more decisions to make during fights. This means trimming the invisible power from his W passive and ult, making Dazzle more impactful and also more risky, and last but not least adding Bastion's link to his kit.

Quite aside from all that, new Taric actually does more damage than current Taric. Instead of a reasonable chunk of burst from W+R, he gets a hefty amount of dps (for a tank) from his new passive, which is more or less a combination of his current passive and Lee Sin's.

Welcome to Riot reworks where our new champions have almost nothing to do with our old ones!

Kiss lategame Raid Boss Taric goodbye, I guess. Going to go join old Poppy, old Shen, and old Sion in the shame bus while a mediocre doppleganger takes his place.

Taric is terrible right now. His Q is pathetic. It barely heals and cost tons of mana. Even Sona's W is better(probably).

W is pretty okay I guess/

E is one of the worst skill ever. Point and click single target stun with a slow traveling projectile to let the enemy know you're about to be stunned so better run away with the many dashes you're given.(Hello QSS).

his R range is so pathetically low that it's impossible for anyone to make use of it.

Not to mention the fact he has no gap closer of any kind of or even a movement speed boost.

He's only godlike late game if your team ever make it there without losing early/mid with Taric on the team.

With Tarics old kit, no matter how fed or starved he got he always performed within a certain extent. He was always useful but never great. The rework is meant to widen that extent, if he gets starved, he doesn't do well, if he gets fed, he does great. So I guess the rework can be taken either way.

i think the new taric looks cool but wont make it back.

the heal looks decent i really love the w the e is very short ranged and slow as fuck and the ult channels forever, noone will be like "oh shit taric ults i only have about 1,5 sec left! will i hit my ult before i cant deal dmg`?" no everyone can tell how much time is left the ult is useless its way too slow

and i dont like the passive at all.

New taric is going to be much harder to play, but if you can master him, he will probably be much stronger. His new link mechanic will allow him to be in the front line and the back line at the same time. His ult will make coordinated dives and engages awesome. He will have increased ability to save his adc in Lane due to having a shield, heal, aoe stun, and an invincibility ult. He also looks like he will have better itemization options than before.

I think it's just to freshen up Taric so more people will play him as with every other champ rework such as Poppy (even though the old one from what I've heard was OP as hell)
