Aatrox Reborn

Unlike most summoner, I'm a huge Aatrox fan. I was recently bummed by the new update because I felt like it weakened an already easily countered character. It made me sad because I see so much potential in his character. The being said, I've been trying to rebuild Aatrox for a while now and find what works well. It was recently when I noticed a new Aatrox build and playstyle may be achievable; a sort of hyper damage/life steal build. Now I know what you're thinking. "people already do a high damage life steal build right?" Right. And wrong. Or better yet, the knew updates make this a more competitive build than before. The end goal of this build is to simultaneously build Attack Speed, Critical Hit Chance, and Lifesteal. This won't be helpful in large group fights, but laning, tower pushing, and even 1v2 are totally doable. 1v3 if you're clever. Now the life steal isn't as important, as his passive will cover most of that, but building his crit speed are all itemized. I like to double up on phantom dancer as soon as I can. This gives you over a 2 attack speed and 60% critical rate. Pair this up with warlords bloodlust plus his passive and you got heavy hits almost every time that are healing you plus the passive. I like to build berserker boots and ravenous hydra for to steal from multiple enemies at once. Now like I said, so far in team fights this is shit, but it melts through towers, minions, drag and such like butter. If you play well and snowball early he becomes a crazy Lane bully. I even lagged out for the first few minutes of a match, followed this build, and when the spike ended I was able to push back the lane for the win. This is still hit and miss, and none of my matches since discovering this have gone long enough to test a full build with other items, but I guess I'll update as I go. Anyway, give this a shot and let me know what you think. Aatrox, the Crit-Healing Speed Demon!

His biggest problem = 800 gold item item 3123

CONS

completely item dependent too easily countered needs too many stats redundant kit lack of innovation on ulti needs benefit from full blood well (or remove health cost when blood well is full) Q is the easiest skill to interrupt in the game Grievous wounds

PROS

Awesome aesthetic design Good lane sustain Good jungle clear Decent gank potential

Lots of people have given some interesting feedback/ideas but overall I think Aatrox has so much potential. I hoped he could fit along side those few champs that take time to master but in the end Riot kinda pulled their punch with aatrox. His kit feels stale and recycled. A 6300lp one-click wonder champ...

Aatrox one day maybe...

Seeing as his old competitive build in season 5 was to build him as a sustaining tank I am not sure how this manages to cover his shortcomings... such as withstanding sieges and getting poked to hell.

Sure, dealing lots of damage is fun but doubling up on Pd's is a waste of time when there are many other alternatives you can consider.

My build would look something like this: item 3124 item 3153 item 3111 item 3065 item 3742 item 3026

Even then rageblade is something of a risky option for me designed for split pushing as he doesn't really need the ap when you don't stack it.

Otherwise there is not much out there viable on him

Ill try my hand with a crit build:item 3074 item 3006 item 3031 item 3046 item 3139 item 3143

Feel free to trade in an offensive item for rapid firecannon.

With this build I would also run 10% crit chance or just go ad carry runes with ad and attack speed.

Anyway, enjoy critting with Aatrox. while not unheard of it is still rather niche

Crit chance is extremely unefficient on him. The reason is because Blood Price can't crit so in a scenario where you toggle it on (so most fights) you won't be able to crit 33.3% of the time regardless of your crit chance. You are better off building Rageblade on him and then stacking AD for more burst instead.

Doubling up on phatom dancers takes a long time and gives him low damage. Doesn't make much sense, especially when you could be building guinsoo's instead.

The issue I've always had with Aatrox since his nerf way back when is that blowing his passive makes him so incredibly weak. If they balanced this a little better he could be viable but as it stands right now I just don't see him being anything but mediocre at best.
