How do you deal with harass as a melee champ?

I'm so bad at these matchups, as in I lost lane as Irelia vs Ori due to her constant autos and harass with that ridiculous ball. Same with Nasus vs Teemo, Wukong vs Teemo, etc. Should I be playing a different champ or am I not playing the lane right?

Theres honestly way to much to go over But the key is play safe

i know lot of people think play safe= you suck

no not at all there is nothing wrong with being 0/0/0 most game and then having farmed enough to have 2-3 complete items letting you even the playing field

hell i fed intentionally fed an enemy team so that i could take towers, because at 3/0 they thought they were safe to roam around to top and bot meanwhile i too 2 towers while they were away

Its an objective game first and foremost

You don't take towers, you don't win

yeah i was 0/3, what good was i to my team in a teamfight? meanwhile, a tower is unguarded, free gold and minion farm

Irelia, specifically, works extremely well against most ranged champions. You generally want to play passively before you get Sheen (unless you see an opportunity for good trades). After you have Sheen, you can generally just engage on them (Q a low minion near them for the reset) and chase them down. They are quite squishy (even Gnar in mini-form), so you will chunk them severely on every engage.

Nasus has more issues with ranged champions due to his weak early game and immobility. Generally, all you have to do is call your jungler up and Wither your opponent for an eary kill. It will relieve pressure (letting you farm up) and get your jungler snowballing.

If you are struggling in these match-ups, I'd probably recommend starting with Doran's Shield and Health Regen Quints. They will provide enough passive sustain that you can farm through their poke.

Wukong is a bit different. He is extremely strong at levels 1 and 2 in comparison to most ranged champions, so you want to kill them early and use that lead to snowball. If you know how to handle them, you can generally kill them or force them out of lane by level 2 so you can build a gold and experience advantage.

Almost all top laners have some innate form of sustain. Buy extra potions and proc your sustain abilities whenever you can.

With a champ like Irelia, play defensively early on, it's ok to loose some cs, try to get sheen or ohage and lvl 6 and then look for an all-in opportunity when you return with full health to lane. Don't give them time to harras you down, get in their face asap and force them out of lane or straight up kill them(which usually requires lvl 6, or atleast lvl 3) With irelia specifically, look out for low health minons close to your opponent, so you can Q to the minion to get in E range, getting the Q reset from killing the minion so you can follow them with another Q if they use an escape.

On Nasus, sit under tower and farm, itemise defensively, so SV vs Magicdamage or aiceborn/frozenheart vs physical. If you take ghost rather than flash, you can try to kill them at 6, if they pushed all the way up to your tower you can easily chase them down with ghost and wither.

Usually, bruisers can easily 1v1 assassins/mages/ADCs as long as they build armor/MR.

So in general, just play safe, and try to get as many farm as you can, even if it means to miss out 20 minions. Get some armor/MR, and run them over because they can't kill you fast enough.

If all else fails, resort to splitpushing or teamfighting. Though prioritize objectives.

The most important thing is to make sure that your caster minions aggro onto the enemy laner if they choose to auto you. Those caster minions do a ton of damage early game and you can easily win trades without even hitting the enemy laner if you manage minion aggro properly. Bonus points if you can bait a ranged champ into tanking a ton of creeps and then immediately all in them, forcing a flash or die scenario for your opponent.

Just play safe and farm long enough to get some items. One of the main reasons ranged champions win lane against melees is that once they get ahead they become difficult to all-in without a teammate.
