With his Rework, Can Talon's E Ground Champions?
So, we know that the assassin update is coming (eventually), and I was thinking about ways Riot could change him. I saw a video by Jeremy "Gaming Curious" talking about his rework, and how most of the changes will be to his E, passive, and Q. I was also thinking a bit about Talon's identity, or kind of his lack there of. I mean, he has elements of stealth, AOE damage, and single target burst, as well as a "kill the enemy or die trying" play style.
So, while trying to figure out his identity, I remembered how, in his lore, he was hunted by Noxian assassins and pretty much rekt them. So, maybe Talon should be an anti assassin assassin. I then decided to broaden that reach. I figure that Talon should be an assassin who punishes mobility, as opposed to an assassin that punishes immobility (like Katarina). All assassins have a mobility spell of sort, some of them even have their mobility from their ult (Akali, Zed, and Diana come to mind) and so if we give Talon's E a grounding effect, it would pretty much shut down these characters.
The great thing is, this wouldn't really affect immobile mages, and it provides a clear strength that would make Talon a desirable pick, while also leaving room for counterplay. Because this isn't a silence mages with CC like Vel'koz and Annie can still CC Talon and do a ton of damage, while very mobile champions like Kassiden and Akali will struggle against Talon.
Also, by giving this buff to his E, it would allow the rest of his kit to be toned down. We can slightly nerf the damage on his Ult and W to make his AOE burst less painful. This increases his reliability to kill one super mobile target in a teamfight, while also not doing a ton of damage to the rest of the team. I feel like this change would make Talon a healthier assassin with a clearer strength and weakness and give him a solid identity as an anti-mobility assassin.
