Does Rumble need a buff?

I bought Rumble quite a long time ago and from time to time tried him out. I realized that he wasn't a good champion in my book, but my friends kept saying he was a great champ that deals lots of damage. From my experience he is terrible. His early game is horrendous. He has no sustain other than his W. His only escape would be his W and E. His Q is a very annoying to harrass with. His kit doesn't allow him to poke unless you are tanky enough. His ult is probaly the only good damage dealing skill he has if you can even place it. Now for all you Rumble mains. Please tell me why you play him. Is he secretly good and I am just a uneducated pleben? Tell me something good about him please.

I'm not a main but I have played a lot of rumble. I find his strength comes out when you really bully the lane with his flamespitter. Of course it really only works against melee champs up top. However if you're able to pick Rumble against a melee top then you're more often then not going to do pretty damn well. When they go to last hit you need to Q them and follow it up with some 'poons. You'd be surprised how much damage his Q actually does, especially once you get your item 3136

He's got a higher skill floor than a lot of other top lane champs, so he requires a handful more dedication to achieve a reasonable mastery level.

As for why people play him, a good Rumble ult can single-handedly win a teamfight. and he's pretty strong in most lane matchups.
