Varus builds.
Hes a situation dependantl champion to say the least... But wtf is going on here??? I have never seen a varus built like this, spesh a Gold 3.
Am I clueless? Do i not understand the champion?

Armor Piercing Varus is actually quite ok Might slightly differ depending on the enemy team comp, but Black Cleaver is ok As long as he doesn't go AP

Varus likes to AA multiple times to stack is W passive before setting it off. BC stacks armor shred multiple times making his AAs hurt more and more until he sets his W passive off. He's an ADC he likes AD he like Apen, he's immobile he can't complain about a bit of extra HP. I don't see the problem.
Try building him exactly like 
Not a standard build but I wouldn't say it's terrible.
Varus can absolutely succeed with a build like that. Though I'd have suggested 
. That way he spreads Blight to the entire enemy team and can pop it on them all when he hits a Q or an E.
He's effectively built as an AD caster. I see a lot of Yoummu, Essence Reaver, Ionians builds from Varus players and they tend to do better than the players who build him strictly as an IE/shiv auto attacker.
Armor pen and CDR are both really good stats on varus, though I will say that he doesn't get the most benefit from BC passive compared to other ADCs. Other than that, it's a pretty normal build: lots of attack speed to get as many W procs as possible.
Black Cleaver is pretty good, but Yoummu is better. It matters how quickly and how long that Varus is dealing damage.
Cleaver was his last item... shyv into bort into ruby then cleaver... was most interesting scene
