@Riot make new champs unable to be banned their first month, and unplayable in ranked. That would be fair! Why sell me a champ that I can't play with?

Maybe because people don't want you trying to first try a champ in their ranked game....
People don't just perma ban new champs for fun, they don't want their game ruined.
Then if rito releases something ridiculously broken, everyone will be forced to suffer through it!
In all seriousness though, take time to enjoy what always happens after a new character is released (namely that people focus so much on it that they ignore other OP picks). Master something like ekko/yasuo in the meantime, and once people realize how easy ivern is to "manage" then you can play him and blow everyone out of the water.
