Why are tanks so broken in this game?
For real. Why does a tank require 0 items to be both impossible to kill and do a ton of damage? Amumu can fight you in a giant minion wave and win. It's fuckin busted. Balance is nonexistent in this shitty game

tanks are beyond broken, in league competitive its 4 tanks and 1 dps, you never see any mage supports...EVER

yeh you use to have a time to punish tanks, thats pretty much gone though with how much gold is in the game. youve only got first couple levels really.
Amumu is a bad example due to the nature of his kit. He takes less damage from autos due to his E and applies a debuff that makes you take 13% more damage from magic damage as true damage. Allowing him to hurt a lot while tanking without items.
If you ever want to shit on tanks pick a bruiser that abuses conquer and you'll just laugh at them as you shred their hp and heal all of your own.

Have you tried building some Lethality and/or Armor Pen? Amumu is an AP tank but has decent cc if built right. You shouldn't really have any problem with him.
