Very simple Yasuo change to make him more balanced

TrustyRustyRuler··52 votes·14,374 views

Very simple. He effectively has two passives, right? His doubled crits and shield? Here's the proposed change:

Shift one of them as a passive he gains upon leveling his W once instead of giving him 2 innates. That way, he'll be more manageable early. Thematically, the shield would make more sense as his W 's passive as they're 'defensive'. Could also put the crit passive on E so Level 1 Yasuo will be a little weaker.

Bonus: This could be added along with or Riot could choose to implement just this one or the previous one. Windwall now has a limited number of projectiles it can block before disappearing, kind of like Braum wall but with more 'health'. Maybe the number of shots it can take can increase with rank, like 5/6/7/8/9 projectiles or maybe something more generous like 5/8/11/14/17 to take into consideration teamfights in the mid to late game.

Thoughts? Yasuo

I can already see myself unironically building item 3085 to counter yasuo`s w in a group fight, lol

Valid tactic.

Saevum7 votes

At least is some sort of counterplay.

DuskDaUmbreon2 votes

As opposed to the far easier counterplay of not shooting the fucking wall?

Quepha5 votes

Of course! The brilliant strategy of “deal no damage, apply no cc, wait to die.”

DuskDaUmbreon2 votes

Because his entire team is just going to huddle uselessly behind it?

Because it lasts for an entire teamfight?

Because you're incapable of stepping backwards or moving forwards or to the side so that it's no longer between you and your target?

Beacon Academy2 votes

"Uselessly behind it"

I didn't realize allied ability and autos were blocked as well.

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

If you have someone melee or just short-ranged, they're going to have to step past the wall to be able to do shit if it's pulled early on in the fight, when he's close to his team.

You can also force basically anyone (Xerath and Lux are the only real exceptions that come to mind) to step past it to deal with you simply walking away from it, or they'll have to stand behind it and do nothing.

So they can stand around uselessly behind it because they don't have the ability to hit you, or they can leave its safety and actually do something. Of course, though, this does require you to not stand like 4 feet from the wall.

Thefrostyviking1 votes

I mean, if he throws it up behind your melee infront of your ranged then he has effectively isolated anything from 20 to 80% of your team and left the rest outside and unable to really do anything.

Step up? His team will happily welcome any enemy backliner that gets close, himself included.

Wait? Your team on that side of the wall will die in the span of 4 seconds.

That ability is no joke.

Spicy Rice1 votes

I love how you ignored the possibility of your melees simple walking backwards, or your ranged carries moving to the side.

Thefrostyviking1 votes

Thats easy enough, melee that go all in dont get to walk back out.

CC stops them, with the exceptions of much more mobile ones like Yasou or assassins.

And Windwall is wide as hell, if you gona "flank" it before it ends then you have to move close as well not just rotate around it.

Your melee will die before it ends and the fight will be lost.

Spicy Rice1 votes

So you are going all in, on a team with a major defensive ability up?

And don't act like you can't get windwall out, its not that hard. Throw some ranged cc at yasuo or his carry, and he will most likely bust it out.

A 9 sec cd for a 26 sec one that can change a team fight is pretty worth

Beacon Academy1 votes

That moment you find out Spicy Rice is a Yas main and is against a nerf for Yas.

Because his entire team is just going to huddle uselessly behind it?

If you are fighting in any kind of choke then yes, they will likely have their high priority targets behind a windwall dealing damage

Because it lasts for an entire teamfight?

It last 4 seconds. If you don't do damage in a team fight for 4 seconds and apply no CC for 4 seconds, tell me how well that goes.

Because you're incapable of stepping backwards or moving forwards or to the side so that it's no longer between you and your target?

If he casts it here, and you are here, and you go here, it's still in front of you. x................Y...............................x.......................x

But sure, you can step to the side, unless its in the jungle where you have walls on both sides of you making it impossible to step around unless you're Kayn.

Please don't write these posts, they make too much sense. Riot can't handle sense. It's against their ToS.

Any change that encourages throwing shit into windwall is inherently bad

Votable Jester2 votes

I mean it doesn't encouraging using abilities on it, only autoing through it (and even then it usually would be better to hit someone if you're able to).

RainXBlade2 votes

And even IF they were to implement a change like that, it would feel very unhealthy for both the Yasuo player and other players. Wind Wall with a change like this would basically be either one of two things: it would be a noob trap that forces you to expend resources, or it would be useless because it would blow up very easily or not block anything at all.

yay nibbers1 votes

What if instead of having "health" it instead had a greatly reduced duration after it ate one projectile? e.g. it eats an auto and only lasts for a couple tenths of a second longer before prematurely fading. This way it can still be used to 'parry' an attack as intented for his design without being super obnoxious in a teamfight.

bitch yasuo doesn't have any crit at level 1 lmao

Unless you build item 1051 first item yasuo

I think anyone who does that you don't have to worry about...

you have to worry about that if it was a yasuo in your team. [sg-janna]

there's clear counter play for that as well, its called dodging

but but how do i know if a yasuo will go item 1055 or item 1051 first item in pick phase

BlueSmurf201811 votes

wow. I thought this would be another shit post putting down yasuo. As a once heavy Yas main, I agree holy shit

Kazekiba7 votes

I just want his W to consume his Flow. Before they reverted IE I hoped the "everyone is now Yasuo" passive meant Yasuo was losing his double crit chance passive (which allows him to get 200% crit damage instead of 160% btw) but Riot never did it, and went back on the Pseudo-LW changes to it.

{quoted}

Huh. I don't think he's op, but that would be a nice change. It puts more pressure on Yasuo players, while not destroying him completely.

He's objectively overpowered, his winrates are WAY too high especially for a 'high skill cap' champion with a massive play rate.

Katherine2 votes

He's objectively overpowered, his winrates are WAY too high especially for a 'high skill cap' champion with a massive play rate.

Because they buffed his Q critical strike damage (which previously was lowered more than his aa critical strike damage by passive) to account for the loss of IE's damage increase.

Now IE's damage increase is back and they didn't undo this change. Wait, yes they did. You'll definitely be seeing those winrates go down.

Póppy Chulo5 votes

Make Yasuo R target like Kaisa ult so we dont have Yasuo mashing their face on R and be placed safely away from tower for free.

SweedishGunner5 votes

Do you know it's not just towers that it repositions you out of? If Viktor casts his W at his feet and is then ulted by Yasuo, his ultimate will place him outside of the gravity field if it's possible.

JeaneGreene4 votes

The idea to shift his passives around is really smart.

Shleelpboy3 votes

Hey buddy listen here, Riot wont listen to us... uh because they care about money.

Karfuss3 votes

I'd rather his double crit scaled on his R. With 50% bonus crit at level 6, 75% at 11 and 100% at 16 respectively.

Throwing one of his passives onto a basic ability only limits his power in the first three levels, and doesn't address Yasuo's core problem: The ability to powerspike after one item and become relevant at all stages despite performance beforehand.

Old Akali had the exact same interaction with Hextech Gunblade. It doesn't matter if Yasuo is 0/10 at 20 minutes and 3 levels behind, he will always be a threat to squishies upon building PD or Statikk and some AD. Yasuo is by all intents and purposes a hypercarry, yet he doesn't need to scale to get there.

Schenix3 votes

I actually just think moving his Flow passive to Windwall would make him have nicer windows.

If you use the wall, you cannot build flow as long as it is up. When it is not active, flow passive is restored. If his winrate dips, there is room to buff the defensive budget itself because now it's linked to one ability rather than two.

Morticianjohn2 votes

I think the shield should break on any damage not just champion damage

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

It breaks on almost all damage that any other shields will activate on.

If Pantheon's shield isn't used up by minions, there's no fucking reason for Yasuo's shield to be broken by them either.

WAZZZUP5001 votes

But pantheons shield is one single passive that only affects auto attacks. Yasuo can block any damage type, and it's not his only passive. He has the double crit as well.

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

And Yasuo's only lasts one second after he's hit. And doesn't always even absorb a full auto. And takes far longer to charge back up.

WAZZZUP5001 votes

That depends on if it's safe for panth to build his shield back up. Yeah, if path gets to nonstop auto, the shield is up faster. However, if he has to use it defensively, he can't really go right back in to cs and build it up. Once again, yasuo can block any damage type, and it's not his only passive. It also scales off ms, as the faster you move, the faster it charges. Yas shield might not absorb a whole jhin 4th shot or nasus q, but it is more versatile.

I have no idea why you even compared these abilities in the first place; they fulfill two different roles.

DuskDaUmbreon1 votes

Because Panth's is the most readily comparable to Yasuo's.

WAZZZUP5001 votes

But the abilities serve separate purposes in different roles. They're not meant to function the same way, so they don't. You can't use a different type of ability to try and balance another one that doesn't do the same job.

Olath Quortek2 votes

I actually think this is a pretty good idea

Karn Bishop2 votes

Only change needed, wind wall can now be disrupted by superior wind spells and anything that destroys walls such as Janna Ornn and Jax while E is active.

JoeMG2 votes

Eh, I just think you shouldn't be able to negate entire champions kits every 20ish seconds because you used one (very forgiving) non-ultimate ability.

I love cowboys1 votes

Maybe the number of shots it can take can increase with rank, like 5/6/7/8/9 projectiles or maybe something more generous like 5/8/11/14/17 to take into consideration teamfights in the mid to late game.

If you unironically throw ten projectiles at a windwall you actually deserve to be in iron.

yay nibbers1 votes

I used to be a Yasuo main and I've always been a fan of the idea of moving one of his passives to one of his abilities. I never thought to put the flow shield on his W though. If it were a passive on his W that scale with its rank then it would be a lot weaker early since he usually maxes it last but because of that his lategame can still stay the same.

Personally if I were to move his other passive, his crit passive, to an ability I'd move it to his ultimate. Maybe make it so instead of getting double crit chance he could get a flat amount of crit chance per ult rank so he can still scale the way he's meant to while, again, making him less frustrating to deal with earlier on.

I wish Riot would do something. I really miss being able to pick my favorite champ...

fix his windwall hitbox. the fact that the hitbox of the windwall STARTS BEHIND HIM is fucking r%%%%%ed.

FrozenDeath141 votes

Easy balance changes even you low IQ apes can understand.

Windwall : Has health that scales per c.level gets stronger at 7 13 and maxes out at 18. ( 1/2/4HP without flow / 3HP with Flow 6HP lvl 7 9hp Lvl 13 (If you cant break a 9 projectile shield at level 13 in a tf you are garbage end of discussion)-) Each HP point counts for projectiles.

Windwall requires a full flow bar to cast at full strenght otherwhise it can only block 1/2/4projectile. Numbers ofc will vary based on feedback.

Make his Q tornado able to destroy projectiles(which will eat up the tornado) so he can decide wether he wants to go in and die like an ape or block a projectile and back off ( This is a new mechanic ) At the same time this is an indirect nerf because if you shoot a projectile at his tornado you can cancel it meaning he has to take extra risk to E.Q or E.Q F on you. In simple words opens up mindgames for both laners. Make his passive scale per ulti rank so rank 6 he gets +50% bonus crit and rank 11 he gets what he has now.

????

Profit. Yasuo gets a new outplay mechanic while at the same time his dumb as fuck windwall becomes something that requires skill and resource management..Also ofc the cooldown on windwall will be cut down when he uses it without full flow (aka full strengh) to compensate for how attrociously weak it is pre 7.

Bingo give a job at riot game design and let me also gut Irelia while i'm there and make darius Q cast time speed scale with level so he isnt a meat suck outside lane phase and buff the fkn tanks survivability and not their dmg ratios.

Ackelope1 votes

Could also put the crit passive on E so Level 1 Yasuo will be a little weaker.

do you know what the crit passive does? it doubles Yasuo's crit chance from items and such. Level 1 Yasuo won't have any crit chance, seeing as most Yasuo players don't start brawler's glove, so moving the crit passive to the E would actually do nothing under 90% of circumstances. Maybe I'm reading into your phrasing incorrectly, but I thought I'd mention it in case some clarity was needed...

LordGeovanni1 votes

Id rather Yasou completely lose his shield get real cooldowns on his other spells and if thats still not enough a futher reduction in crit damage 100% more crit chance for only 10% of crit damage lost.
