Can we get a rework/refocus on Yasuo?
I have a love hate relationship with
....Mostly hate....but he's pretty cool.....I guess. I like the samurai aesthetic of him. I think his overall look and feel are pretty good. My annoyance comes from the fact that he's an extremely frustrating character to play against. He is a controversial character, and gets a lot of hate for good reason. I'll state before I begin. I DO NOT WANT STRAIGHT NERFS. I want an adjustment of power in such a way that his current balance state is relatively the same, but with less of the frustration factor from Wind Wall and his crit passive.
I think a rework of his passive and W would be beneficial as a whole.
Passive: Way of The Wanderer
His passive is extremely problematic. For half the item slots it would take literally anyone else, Yasuo gets 100% crit. On his first back, if he gets, say, Zeal (just an example), he automatically has 30% crit chance. One item gets him 50% crit chance, which happens super early. That's extremely powerful. After that point, boxing him is probably not going to happen, especially when combined with his wind wall.
My other problem with this passive is that it both opens his build paths and limits it severely. That sounds contradictory, but I'll try my best to put my thoughts into words. (Sorry, It's a bit hard for me :()
Most champions when they build crit sacrifice alternative items such as tank items, or more AD items, but Yasuo doesn't have this hindrance to nearly the same effect. If, say, Tristana wants 100% crit, she needs 4 items for it. Realistically you won't go that high usually, but that just shows how super powerful this passive is. He can itemize into Sterak's, Death's Dance, etc and still have dummy high crit. I think this is one of the reasons he's remained a pretty good pick for ADC.
The way I feel it limits your build paths is that you WANT crit. Its optimal for damage, so you're almost always going to build it. Because of this, you end up sacrificing item slots to it every game because it is just the best thing you can get. Some characters get the same items every game. That's part of life, but Yasuo feels a lot more pushed into crit than, say, Kat feels pushed into Gunblade.
I would rather him get a new passive than keep his current one. I'm fine with the shield passive, it encourages the movement heavy playstyle they really want for him. I like it, and think it has some potential. I've survived because of last second shields before.
**W: Wind Wall ** This is probably my biggest point of contention with his design. I don't need to type too much on it, because lots of people have already talked about it. I dislike that Wind Wall basically negates the existence of all ranged champs. People say "Just bait it!", but I've had plenty of Yasuos hold it for what seems like forever. It does have a long, fairly exploitable cooldown. I'll give it that, but the strength of that ability could be an ultimate on its own.
It alone makes him work fairly well as an ADC, as you can counteract most other ADCs kits. Do it against, say, MF. Now her ultimate literally does nothing. You have to force it beforehand, but I don't know any Yasuo who would use Wind Wall knowing MF has her ult.
Really I just don't feel like there is enough counter play to it. It feels extremely frustrating to be on the giving end of an attack when it gets absorbed by the winds. Nothing like having a perfect Jhin ult, only to have the crit shot blocked out by a Yasuo. Its just extremely frustrating. There have been games won off of this normal ability blocking ultimates. I'd rather he get another ability or nerf wind wall to make it only reduce damage, not block attacks.
They said when they were designing Yasuo that they wanted him to always be doing one of 3 things-
1.Moving.
2.Attacking.
3.Blocking/Parrying.
I think that they can keep up the samurai-dualist kind of feel by giving him a skill sort of reminiscent of Jax's counter strike, where the mitigation is focused onto him, rather than just being able to laugh off anything for his entire team.
I like Yasuo, I really do, but its just frustrating to fight him. His damage is high, his mobility is high, he has some CC, albiet limited, and his wind wall lets you laugh away some serious attacks like they're nothing. I just think his kit is overloaded. I don't want him straight NERFED. I want a shift in his power to keep him relatively the same, but remove the frustration factor from his passive and W to make playing against him an overall better experience.
