Lets say you're gold 4 at the start of preseason and by the end of it you've reach gold 2. Is climbing in preseason even worth?

You will have your current MMR averaged out with a 1500 MMR (Gold IV)

If you are Bronze, your rank may go up a little bit. If you are High Gold/Plat, you'll go down some ranks. If you are Silver, don't expect to move much.

This is all subjective, as the MMR effectively changes based on your wins/losses in Placements dramatically. You may end up 1- 1.5 ranks from where the base calculation puts you.
