Ranked Placement Question

Is there a breakdown somewhere of how the placement for ranked works?

I just finished mine, and was curious why I ended up where I did. I had a friend go 6-4 and get S3, I went 7-3 and got S5.

The higher the MMR you have at the end of your provisonals, the higher you rank. Your higher score but lower placement than your friend indicates that your starting MMR was worse than your friend's.

It matters who you play against more than your actual score.
