Basically, when I play soraka, I forgo any amount of AP for my own health regen / survivability and for me it really works and recently ive been considering going for an AP item ( still not entirely sure, banner of command is my first thought but its up for debate. ) Just curious to what you guys think about it.

My logic for not getting any ap is that with the heal on a 1.2 second cooldown ( rank 5 40% cdr )is pretty much enough for me, most recently me and sivir bot lane both at half health got dived by master yi, braum, and caitlyn and I died but sivir got a triple, more ap wouldnt have changed that outcome imo, and as a support, cheap ap items arent exactly common, only ones i can think of are banner of command, morellonomicon, and ice queens claim,( but i much prefer talisman )

SO yeah im just curious as to what you guys think who play soraka, and how you play.

Attached is just the games in my last 10 that I played as Soraka, should give you an idea on my build

item 3512 gives very nice regen and covers armor / mr in one item which I think is great. raptor cloak is a cheap early armor buy,

item 3069 is fairly obvious,

item 2045 is fairly obvious,

item 3158 give me 40% cdr, alacrity is a personal choice, if were losing and pushed in hard I usually get homeguard,

item 3083 gives lots of health and amazing regen,

item 3065 gives health cdr regen and has a great passive.

tl;dr AP on soraka, or tank

I prefer getting AP on Soraka instead of Health. It takes a long time to get the 3k HP needed for Warmog's to activate, and all the health before that is just making your Heal cost more while not healing any extra. With AP my heals are much larger so they are more efficient and I don't need to heal it back up as often, plus it makes my self heal much larger as well.

While I think going AP is more efficient, do whatever you need to Rank up; if that means playing something considered "bad", do it if it works for you.

item 3060 item 3069 item 3023 item 3050 item 2045 item 1334 I know I have too much CDR but that early 10-15 min 35% cdr really sticks it to the enemy team. i would switch them out later.

Sometimes I get item 3041 item 3222 depending. Majei if the enemy doesn't have a good way to dive my team. Mikeal when they have some long range initiation like Veigar or Morgana

item 3158 item 3069 item 3116 item 2045 item 3065 item 3083

This seems like something id like to try, I dont think im ready to give up Warmogs and visage yet, rylais is 100 ap and 400 health which is very nice,a nd the 40% slow on my E would be great, nice on starcall for chasing too.

Zhonyas would be situational imo, in my current ranking most people dont focus me yet so being tanky is nice but i dont need to worry about assasins much, they generally go for the ADC or APC.

Only one item change but taking it slow.

I feel Like I chose a bad time to do this, Lots of changes coming in the next season =S

Soraka needs a mix of ap atleast, as her big parts are her heals, which have ap ratios, don't they? Soraka isn't built up to be a survivor, so youd have to go way out of your way to make her a harder to kill thing, but then a somewhat beefy heal bot is pretty ideal, so I'd Mix them. item 3098 item 2045 item 1331 item 3040 item 3065 item 3285 item 3364 Gives you: Lots of Mana (so you will be able to spam heals) GOOD VISION CONTROL Strong shield when you are engaged on, to give you more time to heal Decent base MS, Could be better but it's Decent. ** And the awesome Spirit Visage Active** Stats: 800 Bonus Health, 150% Base Health Regen 1000 Total Mana, 50% Base Mana Regen 230 Bonus AP (+ 3% of Max Mana as AP) 35% CDR

item 3069 is ok, but Soraka doesn't have any engage/disengage so you cant combo it with anything item 3065 item 3512 Def more health regen than you need, its not your most important stat, and you wont be against that many AP bursters in your average game. item 3083 too costly to achieve this health regen.

I would say don't go for item 3060 , Try item 3040 . item 3040 Rewards you nicely, come late game.

I start with ancient coin because of the extra healing it gives me over Spellthief's edge. Like spellthief's edge, letting the item pay for itself and then selling the item back instead of upgrading it still works out in a net gain.

I of course rush sightstone because it's mandatory on supports, and then I go for either Morellonomicon or Athene's unholy grail. Soraka needs the mana to spam her Q to heal herself so that she can heal others. If you want to finish Talisman (which isn't a bad choice at all) you can forego the mana item since all three do the same job. Athene's is generally the better choice because of more mana, but if you're up against a team that does a bit of healing, Morello's can help close out kills.

I then go for either Zhonya's Hourglass or Banner of Command. Banner of Command is the better option, what with the cdr, regen, and how the aura can support others tanking for her, but if most of the enemy team is AD, I'll go for Zhonya's, since Soraka is the only support that gets focused. If you want Talisman, I recommend picking up both.

After that I get a deathcap because more AP=more heals, both self and ally.

Finally, If the game is still going by then, I pick up a Guardian Angel, because it is essentially the only way to build more health on Soraka without making her heal cost more.

This is merely my recommendation of items for Soraka.

For you, something less extreme seems to be in order, and so Deathcap could be out of picture; not enough AP items. I disagree with Spirit Visage and Warmog's. The passive isn't really worth it compared to AP.

Let's consider what Spirit Visage does for you: +400 Health +60 magic resist +150% base hp regen +10% cdr All self-healing effects +20%

Here's Soraka's self-heals: 「 MINIMUM SELF-HEAL: 25 / 35 / 45 / 55 / 65 (+ 40% AP) 」 「 MAXIMUM SELF-HEAL: 50 / 70 / 90 / 110 / 130 (+ 80% AP) 」 At 0 AP Spirit Visage will increase your self-healing by a minimum of 13 and a maximum of 26 each time. (max rank only) If you build a Banner of Command, it will increase your self-healing by a minimum of 24 and a maximum of 48 each time. (any rank)

Since the cost is % health, each time Soraka uses her heal with Spirit Visage, it will cost 40 more HP. Each time Soraka uses her heal with a Banner of Command, it will cost 20 more HP, but also heal 36 more from the AP.

While Spirit Visage offers passive health regen, building HP in any form is pretty bad on Soraka.

Warmog's is in a similar boat. It will cause Soraka's heal to cost 80 more HP.

As such, if you want magic resist, I recommend Athene's and/or Banner of Command.

To recap, these are what Soraka wants, discluding your choices of Visage and Warmog's:

Mandatory: item 2049

Mana items: (pick one) item 3069 item 3174 item 3165

If Talisman: (more cdr is better) item 3060item 3158

If Athene's/Morello's: (pick one) item 3158+An extra item in the "pick two" below item 3060+(Your choice of boots)+10% cdr masteries

And then pick two: item 3089 (Only if you already have 2 AP items) item 3026 item 3157 (Only if you don't have 2 AP items yet or if you already got Rabadon's)

Other items: item 3040 Not a bad choice per say, but Soraka can't fill up a tear very fast, and she can't take advantage of the Seraph's+Rod of Ages combo because of hating health. It also makes you give up maximum cdr usually. item 3065 It's possible to make it work, but you need AP so that the passive can boost that as well, otherwise it just hurts you. It also makes cdr juggling a bit harder. item 3116 It can only apply to your Q, which already has a slow if you land it dead-center. Has health, which is poison. Overall pretty meh. item 3285 Raw AP basically. It's not a bad choice at all, but I can't fathom why one would want to try outputting damage as Soraka instead of other effects to help Soraka stay alive. item 3512 Not a bad choice either, but it scales off of health, which you are allergic to.

stop playing soraka u gross tryhard play someone that needs skill bronze saltiness aside i believe that it depends on enemy team. if you need survivability, tank soraka. if you don't, ap is better.
