Also this wasn't even because the enemy team was ahead, the game was pretty even the entire time.

Champions in LoL survive long enough to do their job via 3 main mechanics:

Defense Mobility Range

There's no reason a champion like Nasus that relies near exclusively on Defense shouldn't be able to unleash the same level of DPS as someone like Leblanc That have a solid mix of survival from the other spectrum.

In this way: whoever wins comes down to whoever uses their defensive mechanics the best.

Nassus shouldnt have the same dps, because its impossible to kill him in 2 seconds. This would basically mean that he has more dmg.

Its not DPS he's talking about, its relative damage. With all the tankiness Nasus has, it might take LB 10+ seconds to kill Nasus. At the same time, with all the kiting and spammable CC LB can do, it might take Nasus 10+ seconds to kill LB.

Seems fair to me.

So why is it that the 3/4/7 taric can duel the 13/4/8 draven? The game isn't balanced around what you are saying. Its rock paper scissors based.

If he can't hit his targets he's not damaging them, which drops his DPS to 0.

Time to kill a target is also pretty meaningless by itself. There are a lot of exterior factors involved in whether or not that's balanced. If you're just starting a timer when a slow, melee, tanky DPS champion is actively wailing away on their target: You miss out on the windows of time where they circumvented mobility and range and actually caught up to their target.

The win condition of a slow, no-ranged champion is reaching their opponent while maintaining some tankyness.

Also consider this: If it costs a Tanky DPS 50% of their HP to even start a fight that would be balanced when both members are at 100% HP: what use would there be in even playing a tanky champion? You'd loose every fight by eating 1 ranged poke first or getting hit by 1 skill without retaliating vs. a mobile champion that uses hit and run tactics: and then you'd loose a tank'n'spank fight. As a tanky champ. Which would be stupid.

The window in which you have to actually deal DPS over DPS vs. a target dummy is a huge thing to consider. Having a 1,000,000 damage AoE nuke can quickly go from OP to 100% useless if you give it a 1-hour charge up in a game that only lasts 33 minutes. Same general principle applies when trying to out tank'n'spank a tanky DPS as someone that actually has mobility or range.
