Are you Qualified for Ranked 3v3? How can Riot improve early ranked play?

I'm looking for ideas here. I don't have many, but I'll list what I do.

Let me preference this with the follow: I started playing in 2010. I played till 2015, then took a break until 2017. I've been playing avidly since. I have only played on Twisted Treeline since 2011. I stopped playing just about right after character levels were released. Sine I've been back, I've spent a lot of time watching and reading about ranked Twisted Treeline play to get back into the meta. I do as thorough research as I can manage.

Now I know there has been some talk about players not being able to play new characters in ranked. But, and specifically in ranked 3s, are you even qualified to play? It seems to me that, at low ELOs, there are two players on TT. People taking a break from Summoners Rift or the Howling Abyss and people who play a majority of 3s but didn't get placed high enough to avoid the pit.

I know I'm not the only person who was frustrated by the time they finished their placement games. I ended up at bronze III. Frustrated at the losses that came from: players quitting, feeding and being out done. I make a point to be friendly during team select and into the game. I try my HARDEST to not be critical of players before the game is at a very end. But there are some games you just can't win. My issue is with the ratio of games that were due other players lack of experience on the map, poor attitudes, and straight up quitting. I think I lost four games. And there were three very lopsided games in my favor. Three games were even and played out how a game of threes pretty much should (few deaths, health spawn, alters, and spider heavily contested). Four of the games were lost completely due to incompetence or quitting. So with the factors that went into how my rank was established (which I don't know entirely), at 6 and 4, I was stuck in the bottom of the barrel. I'm not claiming I didn't deserve to be Bronze. But now that I am... I'm stuck with players who rarely EVER play twisted Treeline. Players who don't care about their rank because "it is only 3s".

Bad attitudes aside; my issue lies with players who haven't put in any time learning Twisted Treeline. The map is very different from summoners rift and takes practice, or at the very least takes an understanding of the map. Being stuck in the ELO pit is very frustrating. I've made it to my B1 promos and just lost 2/3. The first loss I knew was over at champion selection but I did my best to stay positive and did not say a single negative thing. I knew it was over for two reasons. One the duo I was with was a threes player and someone who obviously had never played before. I tried my best to guide him and asked him not to bring teleport. He didn't speak during select. I checked out his account and it was his first Threes game. The second reason I knew it was over was when I said: "This is one of my promo games to get to silver" the leader of the duo responded: "I dont care. I'm already silver." So one inexperienced player and one rude player. Why is this the duo I am paired with during my promo game? How does a promo game get matched with a placement game? A silver ranked player does not balance out a player who has never once played on the map. Anyway, I went with my best instinct and muted both of them right away. I tried to ping and call objectives still. The game ended with me at 6/8/2 and my teammates at 3/12/5 (silver guy) and 1/10/4 (placement guy).

The second game was lost due to one player exclusively. I duo que'd with my friend. Our que partner picked Xin Zhao, so we were hopeful. Then he proceeded to go 5/13 to our 9/7 and 5/4. I know sometimes people have bad games. But this gentleman was very aggressive, calling us names and pinging constantly. His pings, however, were nonsensical and showed a lack of under standing of the map. At no point in the game did he utilize his vision trinket. I ask again, how is a player with no experience on the map determining whether or not I have to stay Bronze?

The third was the same. I went 12/2 while the rando que player went 2/14. That game lost me my promo out of bronze.

SO FINALLY WE GET TO MY QUESTION: HOW CAN RIOT SCREEN PLAYERS BETTER SO ELO HELL ISN"T SO HELLISH?

My mind immediately jumped to requiring a high character level to play a character in ranked. But what is high? I stopped playing right after character progression became a thing. And I play a variety of characters being that I own about a hundred and its important to pick based off your opponents and teammates. I've played the game for over 5 years but do not have a character over level 3 yet. So that idea seems limiting and kind of awful.

My second idea was to require a certain number of non-ranked games played on twisted treeline before you can play ranked. The problem with this is the terrible BOT infestation that TT has. I'd estimate 1/3 games is guaranteed to have a bot in it. I've certainly never had better luck than that since January this year. And it was like that years ago too. So the problem is persistent and not being addressed. The solution to avoiding the bots is to play ranked. However this drives inexperienced players into ranked games they shouldn't apart of. The bots also give players a false sense of their own skill. If you play 10 games and only 1 or 2 of the games you have a bot on your team and your opponents aren't so lucky; you're going to notice and feel like you've got a real handle on the map and gameplay. So requiring people to play Regular games is not going to do much to help them gain experience for ranked play.

Maybe an age verification and requirement? Or age brackets. Keep kids playing with kids and adults with adults.

My final idea was to retroactively remove or block players from ranked play who repeated prove themselves not qualified to play ranked. I think the old report feature of Unskilled player should be brought back. If a player is constantly reported unskilled and has game starts to verify it (grossly low K/D ratio, sever lack of wins, low farm, other reports for flamming and feeding) they should be removed from ranked or forced to play with players who are the same way.

So, do you guys have any better ideas? I don't think any of mine would be adopted by Riot, though I would love it if they were! Can you think of something that doesn't make it an overwhelming task to be qualified for ranked TT but that also keeps first time players from ruining the chances of dedicated TT players to promote? Can we clean up this ELO hell a little?

While it would be nice if Riot helped spread knowledge about the map (e.g. official tournaments, streams), requiring some arbitrary level of skill/experience seems pointless. By the very nature of ranked, some people are going to be good, and some people are going to be bad. Even on SR, where there's an absolute flood of information about tips and strategies, low-MMR play is still drastically different from high-MMR play.

I do agree that there is merit in discouraging the "It's just ___" mentality though.
