Legitimate Issues with the New HUD

Before you Riot apologists jump in, there are plenty reasons to legitimately DISLIKE this update:

  1. Lack of peripheral information.

    • Sure, Riot "cleaned up" the HUD, but now I can't tell out of my peripheral vision what's going on in my minimap, whether or not my teammate's ults are up (it was easier to read before imo.) I can't tell if my ping or if my fps without completely looking away and focusing only on those numbers. Good luck if you're in base trying to distinguish that shit.

  2. The fact that nothing's labelled in the HUD.

    • Why do I seriously need to hover over icons to find out what's what when I press the C key?_ I already tried to open up a window. Maybe I want to leisurely look at my stats in an easily legible form. I don't want to have to mouse over to a tiny icon to read tiny text telling me that I currently have 11 "resource" regeneration. I have my HUD small so I can see. I digress. The new Tab key is waaaay too barren. I have no idea how any new player would get any kind of meaningful information at a glance. It's clumsy as fuck having to mouse over literally every piece of information.

    • What the hell is up with the new mute button? That thing was so awkward to find. When I'm trying to mute someone, I rely on being able to just quickly hit tab, visually locate the button to mute them and click it as soon as possible so I don't have to deal with more spewed out BS. I don't want to play Hide-n-Seek to do that nonsense.

  3. The minimap is too dark, too small, and has a border that's way too big.

    • The minimap currently occupies approximately 292 x 313 pixels when it can comfortably fit in 255 x 255 pixels. The minimap is literally 28% bigger than it needs to be...without adding any more information that's actually relevant to the minimap itself. Actually, comparing it to the old minimap, it's not that much bigger, but it's just too dark and blends in way too much with Summoner's Rift.

    • I don't care about what my KDA, cs, or Team KDA is when I'm looking at my minimap. It clutters up the bottom right half of my screen. Put that bullshit somewhere else. I didn't mind it at the top of the screen. As a matter of fact, I preferred it next to the timer so that way I could quickly judge how much cs I was behind by certain minute marks in the game. Now this vital information is all cluttered around. I can't imagine professionals that literally track how many creeps they get per wave by x minutes in are going to be thrilled with this change.

  4. The recommended items tab in the shop not having uniform lengths in list mode when all of the other formats do have uniform lengths.

    • This is just lazy and it looks bad.

  5. An awful experience bar.

    • I'm looking horizontally at my "resources" already. WHY do I have to suddenly orient myself vertically to find out when I'm going to all-in someone at level 2? Even more contrasting design.

  6. LACK OF CUSTOMIZATION.

    • Why must I have gigantic ability icons when I Ctrl level up my abilities, yet be forced to have a much smaller character stat numbers? Why does my character information have to stay locked bottom center? Why can't I move my stats top left, next to where my enemy's can pop up? Why can't I put my items bottom left and leave my ability icons where they are? Also: Why can't I scale the minimap to a size that I prefer? Why won't Riot let me make the decision that a minimap size of a quarter of a screen might be detrimental to me?

    • _**Even if the layout not being customizable was the only grievance people had...wouldn't it still be a legitimate grievance?**_ Riot's had how many years of direct feedback from its customers requesting this? It's shameful that this still has yet to be implemented.

These are the complaints I've thought of for now, and I've even highlighted solutions for them. Please add to this discussion and keep bringing it to Riot's attention. It baffles me how they've strived to improve game design and balance the way they have, yet still have come so far off the mark with this recent update.

I am definitely not looking forward to waiting for the next patch for these changes to either get changed or reverted...or even worse, left alone.

Seriously Riot, please.

100% agree with this, and would add a few more things like having too much of the info crammed into the bottom right corner.
