Garen Build Guide: Garen CAN Carry [S7 (7.19)] [Matchups Chapter Included] by FSat

I've been looking for ways to make Garen more dynamic. I, for some reason, think he's really fun to play so I've spent a lot of time playing him and got up to Plat 1 with him earlier in the season. But then I got bored.

This new build has completely re-energized me though! Basically start with Lethality runes and Fervor Mastery. Rush Titan first followed by some other damage item like Cleaver/Steraks depending on situation. From there just build normal tank. I usually finish with Deadman's, Spirit, and Guardian.

This play style is so deceptively strong because its auto attack focused (aa, Q, Titan). With this setup you can basically one shot people with just that combo followed up with ult and maybe ignite. You have a much squishier early game but you end up melting people so fast in late game that it's worth it. And you still end up with roughly 4000 health.

Way more versatile way to play an old classic. Every few games i get people complaining about my build though. What do you think?

yikes. whats the point of that stoneplate?

and honestly after its buff, steraks is always preferable over maw, unless youre facing overspecialized teams with all their carries dealing magic damage.

i think masteries should also be situational. for example, stormraider is always the better option against squishy teams when youre going with the triforce build. you gain extra lethality from cunning too.

mortal reminders only purpose is to counter high sustain teams, when you dont have another guy with grievous wounds on your team. i dont understand your footnote in regards to atmas, since they arent comparable.

maybe it depends a bit on playstile, and sometimes on your matchup. but q max is still stronger than spin max in general in lane. there are some matchups where you dont do the q max, like jax and shen. because the risk of them absorbing the q and almost all of your damage in a trade with dodge abilities is too high. fiora is another matchup where you might want to consider the spin max, if youre not confident that you can always bait out her parry.

if you want to go for titanic, ok i guess. its your choice of playstile. some people like to go for a fervor/mallet build and auto attack a lot. i guess this falls into kindof a similar strategy. this build should actually be more effective with a triforce instead of a cleaver though, since you gain the extra attack speed and combine triforce sheen proc with hydras active for some pretty hefty burst.

remember that garen doesnt need cleaver as badly anymore since they added the armor shred to his spin. unless youre facing really tanky teams, youll get away with building triforce more often.

ghostblade and i.e. should at least be mentioned somewhere. ghostblade is actually a pretty common item amongst higher ranked garen mains, and i.e. is a perfectly viable choice aswell as one of his strongest available damage items. i dont see g.a. either, which should also be listed as a choice in case youre snowballing, or as one of his last items.
