Q&A S Rank minimums for Most Champions. Mastery, Etc
If you are like me you want those S ranks to play riots delicious gambling minigame called Hextec Crafting. Since I only like helping people altruistically out of sadistic desire to enable their vices or help them grow as an individual I have decided to help similar folks struggling with the system wanting to min/max their rewards (or earn those tier 7 tokens). Aka munchkin intiates I have arrived. (Please note I could have left off all this about my ulterior motives and emotional motivations but doing so would have been actively dishonest and decieteful, I ask you to respect this honesty and not post if you do not fall into the target audience (or alternatively if you don't fall into it BUT can help with more data and want to post feel free to!)
Some basic primers on the system: Each map/game mode uses different data (like for like), each region uses different data (thank rito or we would have to have Korean scores and never scratch B rank).
While I am still unsure how it determines what 'lane/role' you picked it DOES account for it (jungle Lulus beware).
Some champions are extremely easy to do well on and get S ranks and others are impossible if you aren't at the skill ceiling for that champ and LANE(jg is a lane)/Role. Which champs these are varies with region dramatically.
Some easy champions to get S rank on: Veigar, Annie, Illaoi, Darius, Garen, Ashe, etc (basically any champions with heavy engage and aggression that CANNOT back out of a fight and deal loads of damage that have weak(very short range or have global ults). Also you can take any melee champ not meant to be bot (or any top/mid exclusive mage like Vlad) that does poorly bot, bot and your KDA and CS and time scores become MUCH more flexible. Contrarywise the opppsite holds true as well.
Actual supports except: Morg, Janna, Soraka; are very difficult to get S ranks on as the score to time becomes increasingly against you, and those that play supports aggressively get insane scores you likely will not be able to ever compete with outside of certain rotating game mode queues, save these for last it is most exhausting. I say morg, Jan, and raka is easy because 0/0/30 75 cs is an easy score to get in a good game and should net you an S- as when you do well u do very well and when they don't is even more common. Let's talk Aram: Great Scott it's easy/impossible on some champs, you need ludicrous scores and no deaths generally speaking (and fast games). Long games over 40 mins the score thresholds starts to get really weird (I do not envy lux players being required to only have executes for just A rank lol). A 14/4/49 Morgana in a fairly short ARAM was only an A rank for example (NA server), 2 quadra kills ta boot.
Kill Streaks matter. A freak game ending pentakill can turn a B- game into S rank quickly.
Nexus Seige and Hexakill (when YOU get hexakills) are easiest maps to get S rank on most champions as the scores are sick for everyone. Low number of deaths can be Key as well.
CS matters the most (jungle CS for jungles), as seems to do epic monster kills and what not (Re: Mord support dragons) combined with KDA and time limit, a few CS missed is a crushing score loss on most champions outside of jungle (perfect jungle clears being important, though more counter jungling can offset).
Do you suck at playing but get S rank every match on just your fav champ? Find a partner that can do at least the same and queue with them during RGM weekends or do 3s spam and trade earning S ranks for the other for champs u suck at. Any time an ally gets an S rank u get a free box on X champ, I have had to resort to this for some of the impossible champs for me.
Want to know the S- (or S) threshold for some champs? Post here which ones you want ( I do not know the thresh hold for non mage type ranged adcs).
A heads up: the death thresh hold does not exist for certain champs (Fizz, Illaoi, etc) and CS and map control (number of wards killed, monsters taken) with crazy number of kills is required, though obviously that is extremely easy on such champions, 69/42/0 is an 'average' top score for something like fizz mid (fizz bot is crushingly difficult like 29/0-2/0 full CS quick win, me and my brother and our kind may be responsible for this on NA, sorry)
Keeping it cool on your server: don't over preform aim for S-, especially while leveling up a new account on a champion that's good tier. You will slowly to quickly skew the score requirements for that champion as you play games (the system constantly updates what that 'average' is). So if you are getting lots of S+ on insane KDAs +CS in bizzare lane match ups you are SETTING THE S Rank threshold. And could cause especially unpopular hard to play champs to require intense scores like 47/0/26 234 CS 9 wards killed Urgot just to get A+ so be careful when taking advantage of the system at low levels if you are an altaholic (This shouldn't happen if only playing 1 account though so go wild if you only have 1 account duh!) especially on low pop servers (sorry for ruining LAS for two champs guys).
I can provide score info for a large number of champs on: EUW, NA, LAN, LAS, and a bit of Russia (good glob hard mode). Working on EUNE too.
Feel free to post S- or S scores for any champs you've experienced (include Lane/Role, Map or Gamemode) the actual 'points earned' on the mastery read out is helpful (on wins).
We can use math to extrapolate the S- threshold for a given S rank if you include the mastery points earned!
Myths dispelled: You can earn S+ ranks on losses and all other ranks too, it's difficult to tell the threshold without the mastery points earned read out of a win.
High CS low number of deaths is key for Loss S ranks. Again you can look at fizz: 67/4//0 302 CS should be an S- Rank for a loss, it's an easy number to get on fizz and still lose the match easily. (Many slayers have problems as teammates cannot get assists (except soraka) for your kills so your team is often gold starved, enemy team has no gold value and you've given shutdown gold a few times and you team has been out CS'd even with your constant presence and you were 11000 gold bloated).
Which reminds me that gold bloat negatively impacts your ranking score so becareful (meaning it is only meaningful contribution to mastery points, up to a certain point).
This has observably lessened since the shut down gold has spread to team instead of just you but it is still easy to gold bloat very quickly and lose. (You will still get that S- rank though!)
EDIT: Patch 6.22: Whooooo dang, things are changing drastically (champions previously not weak to certain assassins are now much easier to mastery rank on, but conversely also much harder (when vs said assassins), Ivern is SUBSTANTIALLY easier to score well on, don't have his new S- threshold however, these fixes to Daisy are BEAST (or rather daisy randomly stoping chasing or attack on 3rd auto was crippling, not being controllable like other units was crippling, etc), should be easy to get in any lane/role except mid.). Big shift on some squishier champs on SR, strong tilt on some champs (S rank score much lower on kat but conversely much harder to GET that lower score as well, unless comped right (ARAM seems unchanged), some junglers are all over the place, etc. I may have posted this thread much too soon. (Top lane and Most Marksmen unaffected on SR, 3s will likely change in a sweeping manner as talon and the stealth changes in general are significant, expect score thresholds on 3s to be much more difficult for most champions fairly soon.)
