How is the LCS world's intial match-ups decided?

It looks INCREDIBLY suspicious and weighted to ensure certain teams don't fight certain other teams (that are paying Riot quite a lot of money for these slots...?) in the initial matches, to ensure they see a certain stage of play offs...

like can someone explain why SKT is vs Cloud9 in the first match and not...any of the other teams instead? I noticed this same very suspicious weighting last season (though not the season before)

tl;dr dispel my suspicions that the LCS isn't heavily rigged.

Every single team in every group plays each other twice. The order doesn't matter at all. It's very probable that some one at riot chooses the matches based on perceived popularity of the match at key times to attract viewers. However, this has little to no impact on the competitive integrity.

I just had to type that above part to lure the FBI who is monitoring my keystrokes into a false sense of security. Now that I have a few moments free from the Orwellian government tyranny I can tell you the truth. Elvis is alive and helped fake the moon landing and later that same studio was used to fake 9/11 so we could invade the middle east for oil. Don't read this section out loud they can hear you. Keep watching the sky the truth is out there.

1st: LCS is NA and EU. Other regions are called other things. 2nd: The groupings are random based on a specific formula, search youtube for 2016 LoL worlds draw show. 3rd. Who plays who first doesnt matter in each group as they play each other 2 times.

However, the order they choose to make them play COULD be based on who they think is more popular etc. Kind of like how the opening NFL game usually involves last years champions or how the thanksgiving game always involves the Cowboys etc etc etc.

If this LCS was rigged, Korea wouldn't crush every other region each year...

Yeah, I don't think there is a method. Probably just randomly dispersed through the Group Stage. I guess there could be an argument made about the benefit of momentum from winning/losing the first match, but at this point the whole point is: if you want to win Worlds you should be winning all of your games anyway.

Interesting question, though!
