Do you get 20 assists in a normal game?
Congratulations; that's ~100 extra AP that you didn't have before without having to do anything different.
Also, immobile bruisers and mages are pretty common at the moment so his Event Horizon is a great defensive/restraining tool.
Its because first Froggen and then LCS played him, now every idiot tried him and since most people are to incompetent, (im sorry for my language, but its like that) to counter him. Now everybody is crying that his now no-more-instant and dodgable stun is "unfair" and that his Ult is unfair, since it scales by the enemy Ap.
Yep, now he`s op because people far more skilled than 99.999% of the Players in LoL can sucessful play him (with a equally good team).
But hey, they arent even crying about the 1-5ap per assist or the -0.25s delay on W, they are just angry because they dont know, or want to counter Veigar. One dude even claimed it is unfair that his ult sclaes of the enemy Ap, since you need ap as a ap carry (which is true).
Jeah, Mr or health items like

thw W buff was actually pretty huge, it's just the bit difference between barely missing and hitting with W, especially if you follow up on a maxrange rank 1 E, or later vs merktreads Vs less mobile enemies, it is even possible to lane W without stun now, given how huge the damage on his W is, getting it more reliable is quite a big deal. Also, Veigar was pretty strong and underated ever since the buffed the E by reduceing the delay by 0.25 and makeing it stop dashes midair...
