How do you feel about ignite on supports?

Hey there it's Instinqt! So as a main support, I often get criticized if I show ignite as a summoner spell. I argue that ignite is better in some, but not all circumstances. In fact, I'd rather take exhaust. What are your thoughts, and why do you think either ignite or exhaust is better overall on supports?

I generally prefer exhaust for my own protection, or the protection of my ADC.

But if you are a tankier support, you probably could get away with ignite. decent against high sustain.

I agree, if the enemy team is really bursty I almost always go exhaust. Ignite can help snowball that bot lane though!

I think I like Exhaust more just because it offers more versatility compared to Ignite.

Ignite is only for when you feel confident that you can snowball an early lane advantage. If you are playing a support that can dish out pretty good damage in one rotation (i.e. Blitz), then Ignite is a viable choice. Or if you are dealing with high LS champions and want to curb them.

Exhaust can slow them down and reduce their damage output, which can make a losing trade back into your favor. With how bursty the meta is, cutting down how quickly your carry dies is probably a really good thing.

Yes, and knowing all the ways to use exhaust to turn a fight is crucial IF you decide to use it!

Depends... If your a slow tank or feel like you might need to support another lane, then tp especially on Leona, because being able to get to team fights faster is better than singling out a target when you already have a stun and a slow

Interesting thought, I've never taken teleport on support. One big reason why I WOULDN'T, taking teleport as support COULD potentially tilt your team, and obviously if you tilt your team you are putting yourself at a disadvantage immediately.

TP on support is shit since it's a non combat summoner. Doesnt help your carries get killed and doesnt peel for your carries. The major uses of TP to save a tower is crap since you cant even solo waveclear to hold the tower and TP to get back into lane is weak too when you rush to lane just to help support rather than have an immediate impact

I don't really see a point in ignite as support unless the enemy support is Soraka. Even then, adc can do the same thing permanently for only 800g. I think exhaust is almost always a better option. Exhaust can secure kills just as easily as ignite can with the slow and ignite will never save your adc from a fed Zed, Yi, Tryndamere, etc. Exhaust can even be used for things like hitting Karthus with it as he channels his ult if you don't have a way to stop it. An exhausted Karthus will only do 60% of his normal damage with his ult. Any kind of delayed ult can be hindered in this way (Lux, Cait, Fizz, Nunu, Wukong, Zyra)

the thing about ignite is that most of it's usefulness is on the early game and gets less useful as the game goes on, whereas something like exhaust just gets stronger the later the game goes. So you have to do something with ignite early otherwise the support with exhaust is just going to make your damage dealer do significantly less damage while theirs just gets bombarded with heals/shields making your ignite be not as great.

I am fine with taking ignite if i am playing a support that likes to be in people's faces, supports that like being aggressive and on supports i know i can make something happen in the early game where heals/shields aren't as strong but i also will recognize that i am losing power later in the game and also quite a bit of flexibility since you can also play aggressive with exhaust just like you can save it to protect your carries

I only take ignite as Blitzcrank for the early kill pressure...other then that it's exhaust on pretty much everyone else.

Ignite on supports with CC since you can use abilities to peel and mitigate damage by not having the enemy attack (ie tanks/blitz/thresh) and exhaust on higher damage supports so you can better peel.

Tanks can better use ignite to add some damage where you cant provide as much. Damage carries can use exhaust when they're missing CC as they already provide the damage. Summoner spell pick to hedge your weakness

Back when I still was a support main I always took exhaust with only one exception: Tryndamere on the enemy team, my top running TP and my mid going for anything other than ignite.
