Ranking the Greatest Champions to Grind on Ranked Solo/Duo to Diamond

Hey Guys.

This article will briefly review the champions I believe are the best to grind on Solo/Duo Ranked games to achieve Diamond. As this discussion would objectively favor champions of some roles and lean away from others, I will mitigate this by looking at the best champion for each Role. I have been able to play each role at an extremely high level (Diamond 1) and I'm using my own personal experience as a source of knowledge. Therefore, this list is disputable, but equally valid.

Top - Garen I've been a Top Main for a long time, and if there's one champion I fear to play against and love to play with, it has to be Garen. He the perfect kit to win lane, effectively manage mid-game, and absolutely dominate late-game. Very few champions counter him, and even if they do, he can still manage his way out of lane-phase without being too far behind. Additionally, he acts as a rarity, being a tank-executioner. Many might cite Cho'Gath, or Darius to be the same, but neither have the mobility that Garen possesses that allows him to keep his game-influence well into late game. I was thinking about Jax as being a potential competitor for this #1 place, but he is too easy to gank, which is a big factor when deciding champions for the Top role.

Jungle - Kayn I hate to say it as a current Lee Sin main, but Kayn is the best jungle to grind with currently. Although it's naturally more comfortable for me to play Lee Sin and make plays, it's ultimately easier to win as Kayn. He has everything needed for a winning-jungler formula; Gank-ability, invulnerability, Assassin or Tank/CC options, AoE kit, and quick jungle clears. He dominates every phase of the game, and most of all, he's super fun to play with.

Mid - Anivia I love that no one plays her. But, on the off chance that my opponents do, I always know that I'm in for a rough game. Anivia is a true dominant mid champion. AOE abilities, slows, AOE stuns, a built-in-GA passive, Terrain Manipulation, and the ability to 100-0 any squishy champion, Anivia is a monster. I rarely play Anivia simply because she's too good. She takes the competitive nature out of the game. When a champion takes the competitive nature out of the game, then play that champion if you're someone looking to grind! Other champions have similar kits to Anivia, but none are as simple, yet destructive as her. For this reason alone, this bird flies to #1.

ADC - Jhin I remember the first game I played as Jhin, I was shocked on how easy the game felt. No one can hit you since you're flying 300 Km/H, but you're also deleting everyone within 4 auto attacks. He has easy farming options, great attack range, long distance CC, slows, and speed ups. Not to mention, he is one of the few champions that can do over 1000 attack damage. His ability to kite makes him the best ADC to grind with to diamond.

Support - Alistar This role is the toughest to call since there are so many play-making supports. However, none are as game-impacting as Alistar. This monster champion can ruin the enemies team fight success by using any one of his 3 CC abilities. His ability to work incredibly well in almost any ADC-Support tandem is its own feat. Additionally, he can roam with ease and doesn't too much mechanics to be an absolute game-changer. On the other hand, he can be one of the tankiest champions in the game when his ult is activated. He has the perfect kit for any support to contribute meaningful plays to achieve that team W.

Thanks for reading and please comment away on what champions you think are the best to grind with on rank. Again this is just a Diamond's opinion, and I could be totally wrong. Hope you have a nice day

Best Regards,

Sherv A.

Blitzcrank you can just stand there to make the enemy feel nervous or make them think your afk and 1 grab can win the game regardless how shit you done. hes capable of making bad ADC's look good and good enemy ADC's look shit.

Blitz is solid, but the scenario you described rarely comes up in higher elo. Most players know the opportunity that a blitz can create. This can be circumvented by positioning of tanks in front of ADC's, but with Alistar, we all know what he is, but it won't change the fact that we cannot get to the ADC due to his peel, or he can go full aggressive and we can't stop him from throwing everyone, every which way.

Blitzcrank is just a piece of crap version of the overloaded Pyke.

In a few years we will all be diamond. So just sit back and do nothing. Riot will keep making new tiers to make people feel better and diamond will be the new bronze!

honestly thought you would have placed MissFortune as the ADC

I can't help but notice all your choices are success or starve champs which accomplish a lot with little effort, but are nowhere near champs for competent players.

None of them are really top tier champs right now, btw.

I agree. I chose these champs by evaluating the skill level required for them. Like I said, I have faith in my Lee Sin to carry games, but if I want easy wins, Kayn is my go to (Over 1k games on lee sin [#1 ranked NA past season] and only 40~ games on Kayn). I feel the same about all of the - little effort, dominant results.

From low to mid elo this will work... like most other champions... but above high elo (D2+) u need champs to teamcomp, situational and good champs from patch....

cant just say that kayn will be always good etc.

To mid elo (bronze5 - d3) everything works if u know how to play and u have brain..

Below plat you probably want a champ that can be a dominating presense, even if their team is losing, and has the lane flexibility to not be counter-picked.

If you pick alistar, you're likely to get counterpicked with something like zyra, for example, while someone like Karma can go top mid or support, and has the flexibility to succeed in all three.

Why play Garen when you can play Vlad and farm your way through every match-up and scale insanely well, while potentially 1v5ing?
