4 Hidden Nerfs

GigglingAngel··1 votes·526 views

Riot's currently nerfing these subjects:

Varus Katarina item 3165 summoner 14

They all have Grievous Wounds in their kit, and you nerfing Grievous Wounds just because of Executioner's Calling doesn't mean they deserve nerfs, too.

Edit: People have seem to forgotten the fact that, before preseason 6, Grievous Wounds reduced all healing by 50%, not just self-heals by 40%.

This means that GW no longer applies to all of these individuals when it's used on anyone else but themselves:

Alistar Bard Janna Kayle Nami Shen Sona Nidalee Soraka Zilean Taric Fiora

I don't see how those are "hidden" nerfs, tbh.

GW as a whole is being nerfed, so how are those being secretly nerfed?

Because this is the entire current assembly of those who use Grievous Wounds, and the only reason GW is being nerfed in the first place is because of Executioner's Calling.

I still wouldn't call it hidden, though.

More like... there's a word I'm looking for... er, collateral? Can't they just nerf the item itself if it's really that strong?

They should just make Executioner's version of GW it's own thing and not nerf the whole package, because the other subjects that use Grievous Wounds don't need that nerf.

There are maybe four big burst heals that would be meaningfully affected by the classic GW spells in that group (Zilean, Nid, Fiora, Janna ult). The rest (especially minor, spammable shit like Alistar and Sona's heals) tend to fall under the category of long-term sustain.

  1. That's 4 more characters than you originally gave credit for, in the first place.
  2. You're severally downplaying plenty of those supports who's heals will save someone hit with Ignite when they originally wouldn't be able to.
  3. Let's also not forget summoner 7. ADCs who take Ignite better use it on the person who doesn't have Heal or any other healing spells, or else they'll just waste it as their partner will just heal them up.

Also lol at actually thinking Shen's Q heal is powerful for anybody other than him.

I simply put down everyone I could think of at the time, and he does have the ability to heal others, so he's effected by this change.

Oh noes, 10% less healing reduction, such a huge nerf!

that is pretty big actually.

Not as big as the fact that GW is going to be everywhere. And let's be real, 40% is still going to fuck sustain champs in the ass.

Not really. With Visage, you go from 120% to 60% with the old GW. Current GW reduces it to 72%. Now it also only affects SELF healing like Life Steal, Mundo's R, Voli's passive, and the like while other champs like Soraka go completely unhindered by GW. Hell, the GW removal on her ult isn't even of use anymore since it only existed prior to remove GW before the heal so it wouldn't be negated.

What would you rather have? 72% always when it matters? (and 120% when it doesn't matter) or 60% sometimes when it matters and 120% sometimes when it matters (and always when it doesn't)

Zair Umbras1 votes

72% always. If you adjust to having 120% most of the time, then you get smacked with a GW for 50% because the mage tapped you when you were below 40%, you're going to have to GTFO really quick.

Most who suffer from GW at all are ones who are typically a bit squishy to begin with the exception of Nasus and Mundo who sustain at all times. Swain is super squishy, Voli doesn't proc his passive until he's below the Nomicon threshold for GW, Aatrox is squishy as heck, Olaf's entire kit revolves around him being around the threshold that GW is at, Vlad is easy to burst down to 40% just hard to kill after bursting him because of his enormous amount of sustain, and then there's Fiddle.... He's super squishy and only his drain sustains him which is easy to stop with CC regardless.

The new GW is pretty much a buff and it's even more-so a buff since before you'd grab ignite to be able to have some kind of kill potential on these monstrosities and their disgustingly high amount of sustain, but now you're only reducing their sustain by 40% compared to 50% with ignite, though you can grab an Executioner's Calling I guess and waste a few hundred gold if you're a bruiser since you won't want the finished item given you're going to become a damage sponge later on.

Let's just ignore the fact that Grievous Wounds won't effect heals from others, anymore.

Which is only actually important when you're facing a Soraka, who already had a way of beating GW.

Or any of the many other champs that I edited on the original post to give people a better picture. There's far more than Soraka, Mr. Salty.

Meaningfully affected? Soraka's spammable W, Nami's W and Taric's Q at bot lane... I mean, ignite is something supports like to pick up against sustain supports to have kill potential. Now Ignite is practically worthless to use against sustain-based bot lanes.

Mathbalnase1 votes

It's actually (substantially more than) 20% less healing reduction (than was previously applied). 40 / 50 = 0.8 1 - 0.8 = 0.2

At least his rework gave him plenty of other power in compensation.
