What's happening to Sejuani?

I have seen a lot of PBE changelogs, and a lot of them mentioned changes in Sejuani. What is Riot's project with Sejuani? What is her idea/identity as a champion in the League? Is Sejuani going to become a DPS tank or a Utility tank? I'm really curious.

The changes are focused on making sejuani more viable in the jungle. They are buffing her clear time and damage potential a lot, both ap and tank, with the changes to her kit. I'll give you a TL;DR

  • Arctic assault does more base damage to make up for base damage lost in permafrost
  • Flail of the northern winds now does % health on hit and scales with TOTAL health from BONUS health. ( makes it do more damage when tank, and more damage when building ap)
  • Permafrost CD is lowered by almost 50% at lvl 5 and the slow is now 1.5s at all stages.
  • all of her skills have the same ap ratios
  • mana buffs because she has really bad mana problems without blue and in even in general.

if you want a really long read, here. The changes are a really nice buff to her overall. If the changes go through the way they are i'd be satisfied.

Sejuani is being massively nerfed, so knowing Riot they're going to declare her a hyper carry now.

She's always been both, just like mumu.

All 3 of her main build paths are still going to viable (although her optimal damage combos are changing now). You can play her as a true tank, offtank/bruiser, or burst mage. I'm actually really excited for the buffs after paying attention to what RicklessAbandon has been talking about. Still waiting on my PBE account to try her out!

tldr:

  • maxHP damage moving from Q to W
  • E duration nerfed from 2.5 to 1.5 at max rank
  • Some mana sustain improvements

Overall, she's getting better in the jungle and worse at ganking. You will now rank W first for sure, and it will help with clears, and your ganks will still probably be good enough to be threatening.

I don't expect her role to change. She remains a late game scaling tank with a devastating teamfight initiation. She will still be pretty iffy at clearing the jungle. Although her ganks will be less good, they'll still be very strong.

My only problem was that her clear speed actually slowed down instead speed up in early game with the juggernaut upgrade. It seems only the magus is the only choice to keep up against attack speed junglers who buy devourer and just destroy the jungle. Also you can easily clean the jungle while getting both buffs too without recalling,it is very doable you just have to time her abilities right. It was also my first try with her in the jungle and had to recall only at lvl4.

Wow...kindasorta considered sej one of my mains but didn't even think to be watching the pbe for her changes. I see you guys running the numbers a lot and it makes me feel a little better about this not being an outright nerf, but iunno... I appreciate the buff to her jungle, since the new jungle's made her feel even more out of place there than before. I'm not sure it does much of anything to help with her getting counterjungled though, which has always been one of her biggest weaknesses and a reason I rarely jungle her in rift.

But my more pressing issue is...they've essentially moved all her damage to her w, but am I the only one who feels like it's still her hardest to use skill? Before the rework it was simple enough, throw it up and keep it up for HP scaling damage. And I like that it scales off her total health (again? Can't remember), but ever since the rework the delay between the skill and the second cast activation or the interaction between her skill and her slow aa animation has always felt awkward, the idea of now relying on that skill completely just seems really tiresome. The nerf to her e for ganking also seems to hurt what was one of her best/only ways to come back from the bad starts she's always been prone to. Or are these changes meant to fix her starts?

I dunno, I just know I was super excited about her new skin as of this morning and by the evening I'm wondering if I'll even enjoy playing her as a champ anymore. Hope it's not as awkward as I'm worrying about, but that w's still tripping me up months later. :/

You can E more frequently but it does less damage. She's going to feel more like Nunu in the sense that you run after somebody and slow them to death.

Currently her chase is sub-par, and she's more of a bursty initiator.

she's still going to be a cc tank, but she'll just have a little more damage to help her clear and an incentive to level w (that's where her damage will be instead of spread all over her abilities)

Teridax6812/4/2014, 4:23:50 PM1 votes

Sejuani's a bursty AoE initiating fighter: she locks up the entire enemy team with her ultimate, charges in, deals additional AoE damage with her W and slows them with a bit of additional damage with her E, by which time her team should be cleaning up. The changes on the PBE are there mainly to improve her clear and tone down her burst a tad, not change her playstyle. She has fair a bit more DPS, but her main strength is still her burst and her crowd control.

They're buffing her! More mana, and moving Q's %hp dmg to W while also buffing the ability. I hated it at first but then did some more math. Looks really promising!
