Smite is not going off!

I am in range of baron, literally right on him. Hitting smite and its still not going off! happened twice in one game. He had plenty of health too.

Yeah actually happened to me as well. I tried to steal it and I thought I missed it but the smite didn't go on cooldown. I later watched the replay and yeah smite just didn't go off on baron
