Does being on a different side affect how you play?

I am just curious, if anyone else notices this. When I play on the top side of the map, I find it slightly more difficult to be as successful in game. This isn't a major issue, just wanted to post my thoughts. For example, I play with my camera unlocked but typically hold my spacebar down while I am walking and stuff to lock it. When I want to quickly glance at another part of the map near me, usually I can move my cursor to the top, left, or right of the screen to drag my camera. This functionality obviously does not work when you drag your mouse to the bottom of the screen, so especially in laning phase, I feel that it can be more difficult to manage the camera from the top side of the map. Anyway, just post your thoughts, I am curious if anyone else feels the same.

I'd say it affects jg a bit, mostly at the start, but that's not the biggest factor.

It may be my imagination, but it feels like the top fountain side has an advantage when it comes to dragon. It has a mostly impassible wall around it. Only wall jumpers can invade a dragon attempt from the south, and getting good, solid vison on it requires going deeper into enemy territory.

One could say the opposite is true for baron, but Baron isn't a big factor until later in the game, long after laning phase is over.

Yeah I hadn't thought about that

Fuck yes! Red side BOT is terrible

See for me, it especially affects me when I am playing someone like caitlyn and trying to ult, or if I am pushed under my turret its hard to poke and cs

Look up Game Theory's color theory episode. Aside from that there is an arguement to be made that red side is at a disadvantage because they can't move the hud.

I love game theory! I saw that episode

Interesting. I do see where u r comming from though

I agree that the HUD often blocks important things while on red side. I can't see what's approaching in lane because of this, and I usually have to take pot shots using the minimap and pray they hit until I can get to a better vision area.

Yeah it can be pretty tricky at points

I actually prefer being red side XD

It's not all bad XD Only certain sides of the map are affected for me, different parts of lane are better. When you are by river its not terrible , but if I am pushed back to my turret, then I struggle. :P

It does have an effect early when you are still learning the game. Once I got used to both sides, it hasn't been an issue at all.

That's true, I am lower elo player anyway, I was curious how higher elos thought about it. Tips for getting used to it?

The problem is that you really get used to Blue side while learning the game. The only thing you can do to get over it is to play LOTS of games on the other side.

Okay!

Yes I miss more blitz hooks on purple than blue because of the camera angle is different

It personally affects me as a jungler because I personally start only on one side of the jungle when I play a particular champion. This sometimes hurts because I will normally get a different leash depending on whether I am starting on the bottom side of the map or the top side of the map because I get a better leash on bot side.

This especially hurts when I play off-meta junglers that need to start on a particular side of the jungle to clear early.

Other than that there's not a significant difference.

That's a good point, I don't jungle very often and didn't think of that

being on the red team arbitrarily locks out half of my favorite junglers and makes it incredibly obnoxious to go anywhere near bottom lane

Red side is way better for Warwick compared to blue side, mostly because of how the buffs line up with dragon.

I mean, you learn to play around it, but yea, there are some differences. I think blue side has a slightly higher winrate than red side (it may have evened out by now), I think the perspective is slightly easier to play. I basically play botlane now (Supp/ADC main), so when I'm blue side I tend not to push as hard (without ward coverage), since the jungler has an easier gank path through tribrush, but that's about it.

Actually, I think bot lane on blue side is a bit more difficult because of the awkward angle on dragon (the opening faces red side, so it's easier to get collapsed on when taking dragon) and because the tribrush thing I mentioned, but overall I think it's easier playing on blue side, so for me personally, it's pretty even. In mid, top, and jungle, I absolutely prefer blue side, though.
