Why have duo queue at all, with solo & flex queue available?

I'm curious why they're bringing back duo queue at all.

Prior to this past season's changes to ranked, the solo/duo queue was the only way to enter into ranked with X number of friends, unless you had 5+ dedicated players to form a team. So, I understand why the solo queue also allowed a duo partner so that you could played ranked with a friend.

In the upcoming season, solo queue returns, along with the allowed duo partner, but there is also the flex queue which allows X number of players, just like it is currently.

So, why not move the quo queue over to the flex queue and have the solo queue be purely that ... solo only? Wouldn't that be more pure to the idea of a solo queue? It would also make the queue options more intuitive. Want to play ranked with a friend(s)? Flex queue. Alone? Solo queue.

Just a shower thought.

My guess, its the ever present support drought. Most of the support players I know only go support if they are in a premade with an adc. Its a nessesary evil until a solid incentive is given for playing support.

having the solo/duo queue is just to appease the masses that raged over its initial removal. though i see what you're saying. it doesnt make much sense other than appeasement

Firstly, the ability to play with one friend is generally fine. It doesn't impact match-making too bady (especially if the division difference between players in a duo is restricted), it can make the game more enjoyable for those players and it is especially useful for practicing for ADC and supports.

Considering Solo/Duo was the standard in previous seasons, I have no issue with it.

Secondly, if solo and duo players aren't going into Flex Queue (and why would they when it will be considered the "casual" ranked queue), it is far more likely to die off and be replaced with Ranked 5s.

I consider this a positive point.
