Personal Opinion: Dark Harvest is the most fun rune in the game.

With DH's overwhelming prevalence in the pre-season, despite the recent hotfix, I wanted to offer my 2 cents on the whole affair. I think that Dark Harvest is simply the most fun rune in the game at present. I feel like it's one of the most simple and straightforward runes in the game currently and I think that's part of its appeal. It's extremely effective at facilitating one of the most enjoyable gameplay elements within League: Harvesting the lives of enemy champions. The stacking mechanic is super fun and does a great job at incentivizing you to hunt for aggressive plays. I think this rune has a lot of parallels with Flash in the early days of League. In the early days, the consensus on flash's power isn't what it is now but most people I met agreed it was the most fun option to play with. I feel like Dark Harvest is in a similar place and I kinda hope it gets treated similarly. It'd be really unfortunate if this fun option is no longer viable/strong due to it's popularity.

Abuse it now because I do think it’ll be nerfed,re-reworked or reverted. The reason for this is I watched a streamer while I worked today for 8 hours and in all of their matches 6-8 players took dark harvest on their champion. If that’s all that is being used the majority of the community will complain and something will happen. I give it about 2 patches.

That's my sentiment for the old DH. That actually had a mastery curve. This is just brainless more damage. It might be zero intelligence fun in the short term but it'll become gimmicky and boring fast. There's no depth to it. The previous iteration was very easy to use too but had a ton of ways to demonstrate mastery. If you don't think so, you just weren't utilizing it to its full extent.

It tested nearly every aspect of the game from efficiency, to teamfight positioning, to patience/timing, on-the fly thinking for extra stacks from monsters/cannons, strategic flexibility (example, pushing turret with a cannon wave to get a double stack application on the turret for a faster split even if you give up some camps for it) etc. It was a constant balance of decision making and the new one is just absolutely horrible both in design and fun. It's bland beyond belief. If your definition of fun is just mindless "more damage".... then sure but if you want to grow with the game and be truly engaged, it's a travesty. They took the rune with among the highest skill curves (phase rush and predator are pretty close to it) and removed everything that made it interesting.

The most fun was early Klepto but they nerfed it in the wrong way. Now it hardly procs and very few people seem to use it anymore. The issue wasn't the frequency of it procing but the amount of gold you got from it. Bag of Gold is 40-110, just from autoing. Why farm when you could get so much gold from actually attacking an enemy. They needed to lower the onhit gold to 2 gold and the Bag to 10-50 and leave the rest.
