Without any meta, this could be really fun.

if Riot want more audience for LCS, please don't enforce the meta by making only 20 champions viable.

Watch how fun this game was: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IazsoHzr4Vg

The commentators, audience, and even the players are all having a good time. Just look at the smiles on everyone's face.

Well a problem being these are pro teams... winnings a big deal, gotta look good, gotta get them moneys, gotta get them sponsors, gotta KEEP THEIR JOBS... and there is an optimal way of winning that they will be guaranteed to utilize if you nerf those 20 "viable champs" that contribute to the most optimal way then different champs will rise to power instead and become the NEW most optimal way this is because balance is relative

Are you saying there is always a best team comp?

pretty much a combination of counter picking and team synergy composed of the top tier picks and you're guaranteed a winning comp

Wow, why not football players just play football with their hands around the field in FIFA?

It's because LoL players press keyboards using their feet.

They could do this because this was a meaningless game for standings, so they just went with picks for fun To be noted note that Rammus, Fizz and Malph were considered troll picks, and Corki was 0% ban rate at that point, EU LCS meta was really behind the Chinese and Korean meta entering the Worlds (and the fun thing is that if i'm correct it was an european team to bring Rammus back in the meta at Worlds, lol)

You are explaining the EXACT reason why something's wrong. When players do not stick the a small pool of champion, it is considered only for fun. Look at the worlds from S1 to S4, the variety is getting lower and lower.

Well, Zac was really one of the worse champs back then and he is still now, going from a small pool of champ to be viable to all the 120 champ pool to be viable is a bit of an unrealistic goal to meet, his pick or Ashe jungle pick not being common is not just something that can be pointed out as Riot's fault

And, if you see, half of those troll picks champs aren't anymore considered troll picks anymore: Fizz is considered one of the most powerful champs and we even saw Ad Fizz recently played by UoL (!!!) - In that game in the video he was builded AP - , Rammus, Maplh are not troll picks anymore, Jarvan is right now one of the most OP and banned champs around, so what si lacking, imho, is not the variety from season to season, but the variety in the meta of a specific season (which is also players fault, though, there are a lot of off-meta picks that counter meta picks which are rarely used by both pro and common players)

S1 to S4 wow, people learned how to play the game after 4 years.. what a surprise there was a time where adc/supp bot, mage mid, tank top, and bruiser jungle wasnt a standard but then people found this set up to be the best

And lost the ability to have fun in the process... what a surprise

They're not expected to have fun, they're expected to win. Their salary is on the line.

And game would have meta doesn't matter how well balanced it is there is always that most efficient way to play the game.

What you're looking for imo is "flexible meta and community", if that's the case then yes, I raise 2 arms in agreement.

Riot needs to stop batting down the entire whole class just because one or 2 champs from their category was broken for whatever reason, nerf them, not with everyone else. It's because of that the situation hasn't changed at all from where it started for a good long time now.

Actually it depends on how you word it. Yes, there is the most efficient way to play it, but not with only 10 champions. I think you got my point anyway.

All games have metagames. Riot has no choice on that topic.

If Riot could create a balance state where 60 champions were common picks, they would. Nobody ever complains about there being too many contested champions.

Their problem here is that champions are too similar, leading to really small differences in power kicking a champion to the curb. For example, Lucian and Graves are basically the same dude. Whichever one deals more damage in an early all-in will be the one everyone plays.
