Copied this from my response in another thread.

First, the general tips:

  • Try to avoid shoving Nasus under his turret. That makes him very hard to poke and/or kill as most melee champions, leaves you overextended (and wither makes it very easy for his jungler to gank), and limits your jungler's options.

  • Nasus will typically stack resistances early. In some cases, rushing early penetration (Void Staff, Last Whisper, or Black Cleaver) can help keep your damage relevant against him.

  • Nasus deals primarily physical damage and he doesn't usually itemize for armor penetration. If you believe you will have to split-push against him for a significant portion of the game, you want to purchase some armor. item 3047 and item 3075 are especially useful when dueling him since they will reduce and reflect damage from his Q respectively.

Shoving to tower is the absolute last thing you want to do against Nasus. It lets him safely free-farm and sustain, limits your trading opportunities, prevents your jungler from ganking him (in most cases), and leaves you vulnerable to ganks (and Wither is great for chasing people down a lane). Diving Nasus can be risky as well since:

  • Wither slows you and lets him escape
  • Spirit Fire reduces your armor, amplifying the damage dealt by the tower
  • He can get a large burst of health from his lifesteal and his ultimate

Now for your questions.

How do I deny farm?

In my experience, I find that you have to freeze the minion wave and zone Nasus from farm. If at all possible, try and get the minion wave pushing towards your tower, freeze it, and call your jungler up to gank Nasus while he is overextended.

A good Nasus player may know how to handle this situation and break the freeze, but if you can get an advantage against him you can often bully him early. Just make sure he spends as little time under his tower as possible, since they is where he can freely farm and sustain.

Do I roam or stay top?

This greatly depends on the situation. Many counterpicks against Nasus will want to stay in lane with him and deny/bully him for every CS he tries to get. This works quite well when you can do so for an extended period of time, but this isn't always possible (especially when your team is losing). If your champion isn't good for handling Nasus or your team is having issues, you may have to roam to try and snowball other lanes. This can help you end the game early, snowball your team to victory, or get you allies fed enough to help against Nasus. This can be really risky though, since it allows Nasus to freefarm and splitpush.

What champions do I pick into Nasus?

Generally, I find you want some mixture of the following quantities in a champion laning against Nasus:

  • Durability (to survive retaliation and ganks)
  • Sustain (to stay health and outsustain him)
  • Spammable abilities (to punish Nasus whenever he tries to CS)
  • They have some method of sticking to Nasus or don't rely on attack speed (since Wither can cripple many opponents)
  • Anti-tank abilities (armor reduction, percent health, etc)

In addition, it helps if your champion has a strong mid or late game so that they don't fall off in comparison to Nasus. From playing as and against them, I find that the following champions can (or could) do relatively well in lane:

Akali Darius DrMundo Gnar Hecarim Kennen Mordekaiser Olaf Rumble Shyvana Swain Trundle XinZhao Yorick Vladimir

However, you don't always have to counter Nasus solely in lane. There are many champions in other roles who work very well against him.

**Mid laners: **Malzahar Cassiopeia Azir Heimerdinger Karthus Orianna Viktor Ziggs Kayle Velkoz These champions typically offer high sustained damage and methods of kiting Nasus when he tries to approach their team.

ADCs: Ashe Corki Draven Jinx Sivir Varus Vayne KogMaw Kalista These ADCs primarily have CC (knockbacks, slows, snares) for kiting Nasus and deal either mixed damage or highly amplified physical damage. Several of them have percent health damage or anti-tank abilities to help kill tanks like Nasus quickly.

Due to the crippling effects of Wither, your ADC should typically have either item 3140 or summoner 1. This can let them remove Wither immediately and kill Nasus before he can reapply it.

Junglers: MasterYi Nunu Gragas Sejuani Elise LeeSin JarvanIV Nautilus RekSai Junglers can be tricky since you typically want someone who is strong and capable of kiting him late game, but you also want someone with strong early pressure to gank Nasus and set him behind.

Nunu can set the enemy jungler behind, relieving pressure from the top lane so they can keep bullying Nasus. During teamfights, he can buff your ADC to increase their damage, chain-slow Nasus to prevent him from reaching anybody, and is too tanky for Nasus to kill.

Master Yi is a special case since he isn't that great against Nasus in teamfights but he can absolutely murder him when they splitpush against one another. Master Yi can deal a lot of mixed damage (Devourer, Blade of the Ruined King, Wuju Style), build somewhat tanky against Nasus (Ninja Tabi, Thornmail), can use Meditate to reduce Q damage, and ignores Wither. He deals far too much damage for Nasus to heal through and deals it too quickly for Nasus to kill him.

Supports: Pretty much the entire support pool can help counter Nasus due to the CC they provide and how good they are at kiting/peeling immobile squishy champions from their carries.

What summoners do I take?

You typically want to take Flash and Teleport. While Ignite gives you some extra kill pressure, you may still lose your level advantage if you have to walk back to lane. In addition, if you don't have teleport than Nasus can freely splitpush and still join fights so you will either lose towers 1v0 or lose teamfights 4v5.

What do I build?

That greatly depends on the champion you are playing. However, I would recommend building your percent-penetration items relatively early in the lane since Nasus will be stacking resistances against you. Afterwards, you may want to get some armor (such as Ninja Tabi, Chain Vest, Seeker's Armguard, or Warden's Mail) or continue building damage.

If you want an example, I would typically build Ionian Boots, Hextech Revolver, and Void Staff as Vladimir when laning against Nasus (or most tanks) so that I could quickly poke him out of lane and prevent him from sustaining through my damage. As Darius, I would recommend rushing Black Cleaver into Randuin's Omen to render his armor ineffective and to become durable enough to ignore his damage long enough to kill him.

That's most of the advice that I can give based on my experienced playing against and as Nasus. Hope it helps.

If you want a guide to help Bronze players deal with Nasus, then I unfortunately can't help you out. I've never been in Bronze and have only spent 30 games in Silver before getting to Gold, so I can't adequately account for the poor coordination, mechanics, or judgement at those levels of play.

Best of luck to you.

Quinn is a pretty hard counter for Nasus. Blind + great kiting + damage.

To add to this, most people don't know that auto attacking a champion draws enemy minion aggro towards you, while damaging an opponent with spells (that aren't auto-attack based) doesn't. This is important in relationship to your point of "don't shove the wave into his tower".

If you auto him, the enemy minions auto you. When the enemy minions auto you, your minions continue to auto the enemy minions. This means that enemy minions are losing HP while yours are not, so you're basically shoving the wave towards him when you auto him.

When I've played Nasus, I was able to completely ignore any harass from pretty much any champ (with the right runes/masteries) besides vlad. Vlad's constant Q/E combos wear me down faster than I can regen, and he doesn't need to weave autos, so he never shoves while harassing.

I personally just take renek into nasus and kill him as often as I can early game. I take that advantage and roam mid/dragon with it, giving gold to my team by getting kills, towers, and assists. Nasus will outscale every single top laner you can pick into him, but you goal isn't to outscale him. It's to delay his powerspike, take advantage of that delay, and prop your team up mid game so that you can either

A) finish the game before he's relevant B) get your mid/adc so fed that his stacks don't matter as much

EndlessSorcerer2 votes

Wait, there are people who don't know that autoattacking enemy champions will draw minion aggro? Wow.

There are some champions who, while not outscaling him, scale similarly well and can benefit from the free laning phase. Dr. Mundo can become night unkillable, Poppy can free-farm for her items and kill Nasus' team around him, Vladimir can kite Nasus with Rylai's and isn't contested for farm, etc.

Thanks for the contribution.

Ryze I've found Ryze does pretty good against a Nasus with his E. After 3 Es he will either have to back off on farm or risk dying.

So hate on me all you guys want but I've found Garen to be quite an effective counter against Nasus.

Q: Amazing against Nasus. Use it when he wants to Q a minion and the silence will prevent him casting it and possibly lose him the minion. Use your Q as a cleanse for his Wither and spam 'laugh'. *Note: Your Q also stops teleporting so there is that.

W: Great for trading and taking reduced damage. If he wants to Q you instead of a minion just activate your W and then Q and spin to win.

R: Execute ultimate...

If you really want to have fun and give him a bad time:

summoner 14 summoner 4 item 3071 item 3142 item 3035 item 3047 item 3143 item 3031

Super yolo but SUPER EFFECTIVE! You pretty much just bully the crap out of him and snowball your way to victory. Garen has terrific base damage, as well as extremely high AD ratios. Split push on him all day long and force his team to respond and spend extra resources to stop you.

Darius GnarChogath Kalista or any champion with a abuseable laning phase will shit on nasus. you might be playing a champion that you can't punish nasus with and thus he can farm without much worry but the thing is, if you don't wrap up the games with early game champions then your going your ass handed to the 800 stack nasus.

also i've also notice that people for what ever reason would rather put off a item 3035 item 3135 to the 5th or 6th item. don't do that, its the tank meta people, if they have a tanky team just build it as yours 3rd or 4th item :l

Didn't even look up your rank but I'd like to 1v1 you. It's not Teemo's poke but his blind. It's easy to see when Nasus is going in for a Q and just blinding him.

You don't kill Nasus but he gets very low stacks and gold. You've been playing some pretty crappy Teemos.

AND. Nasus' E is so expensive. And Teemo is a quick little critter; it's quite easy to get out of the AOE. Just buy item 2041 as Teemo and bye bye Nasus.

Yea. And on top of this, nasus wants to max e LAST, not first. Q > W > E

you poke him when he goes to stack, hit him with your rotation then get away from him. do it over and over until he has to leave. have patience.

Mecha MaIphite2 votes

When I play Mundo, I like to stand on low health minions and sometimes he Q's me instead. I have the sustain to deal with it. I once did this so much that the enemy Nasus only had 250 stacks at 30 minutes in.

WukongMain1 votes

You can really stop it, the best you can do is endure it. try and punish him early laning phase, do not let him stack for free. harass him to the best of your ability each time he goes in for a cs, you should harass him.

sense you're vs a nasus you probably have Teleport or ignite. if you have ignite, try and kill him level 2 or 3. or atleast make him back.

if you have Teleport recall as soon as you can buy an item, and teleport back, and fight him with your item advantage.

when hes dead, or you have pushed the lane to hes tower, you need to make plays on the map. try roaming mid lane for a kill, or teleport bot lane for a gank and maybe even dragon.

there is no way to stop him from stacking, the longer the game goes on he will become stronger. try and push towers down quickly. roam often, take dragons often. Every second he spends stacking, you must punish hes team for it. Force a teamfight mid 4v5 while Nasus is top stacking.

Group push towers quick. and win the game before he even gets going.

Dr Poro1 votes

Only Hecarim can do that.

Rueian1 votes

you have to zone him by harassing him so he burns through his flask and potions. You have to sacrifice CSing to stop him from being able to CS

While this comment is not nearly as thorough or helpful as some of the posts already here, I wanted to share my opinion. As someone who played Nasus pretty heavily to level 30, my best Nasus games were actually when one of the outer turrets fell early. I learned that if I could have a lot of time to just free farm, I could get stacks easier because then the lane will typically be clear of my enemy. So echoing what EndlessSorcerer said, do not push to his turret. I would tend to say that the longer you can sustain laning phase, especially if you are stronger than Nasus (which in lanin phase, you likely will be), the better off you will be.

I remember I was playing a game as Nasus vs. Vlad top lane. I was zoned out of almost all of my CS early because of Vlad's range and his ability to win trades with his Life Steal. At one point, I decided just to give up top turret to allow myself some room to farm and then I was able to farm pretty heavily and get big. So my advice, don't take the outer turret unless you are to a power spike and have enough damage (if a carry) or enough sustain (if a tank) to handle Nasus with a bunch of stacks.

I find the best approach is to bully the shit out of him until the first back, and then shove the lane and go kill his team. Nasus isn't going to leave his lane to help, so go win the 5v4.

Lugg1 votes

You can't stop him. All you can do is slow him down. Any decent Nasus player will have 300 stacks at 15 minutes no matter what you do.

Riot really needs to nerf his stacking, it's way too easy right now.

The Bíg Ticket1 votes

Biggest mistake I see people who lane against Nasus do is worrying too much about him getting stacks...yes it probably isn't nice to run into a Nasus with 600 stacks at 20 minutes but he will always be kite- and killable in the lategame. He is not that tanky, he needs items to tank and he has no way of getting close to your carries except for running at them. One Morgana Q and he is dead. So don't panic when you lane against and try to play overly aggressive which may end up in you dying through a gank (Nasus is pretty easy to gank for with his W) or diving him under his tower because you feel you have to deny him stacks.

Dedrius1 votes

The fact is you will not be able to deny nasus stacks for very long, so it is best to focus on making TP plays elsewhere on the map (focus on bot) and snowball other lanes.

TheVishual1 votes

every time i play against a nasus he gets like 500 stacks 20 min in i dont know how to stop him

Freeze the lane far away from his tower... do not push into his tower because he can just farm safely under there.

Play someone who can kill him, make the lane last as long as possible by not taking tower early.

By the time you take the tower you should be fed enough to roam mid/help with drag and he will be pretty much useless with no farm, Nasus is really weak early if you don't let him farm safely

If he wants to spend the next proceeding 10 mins afk farming top, great; your team now has a 4v5 advantage and his team will bitch at him for not coming to fights. Other option is just keep pressing your advantage top but this leaves you open to ganks and you can't use your gold advantage to help the rest of the map.

rG Thundrag1 votes

Since the rework currentlyGangplank does exceptional well against nasus as kegs will deny him from properly csing and provide intense kill pressure through out the lane and even though he rushes resistances it doesn't matter cause of the built in armor pen and true damage passive.

when barrels are killed by nasus q it doesn't actually give him stacks aswell not that he should be capable of aa'ing a barrel without losing half his hp bar by going near it.

I would also like to point out even at tower you can safely pressure him with kegs extended range and push him away from his own tower, just make sure you're warding properly and don't actively try to take the tower too early.

Bruddah Mase1 votes

its basically impossible to stop nasus from stacking right now, his kit gives him lane control(he doesnt autopush and he has sustain as well as the a bility to shove with e or escape ganks with w). i've found that picking anyone who's effective early game and falls off at all or just doesnt hyperscale is instantly going to make you lose. Nasus is impossible to kill in lane if he has a brain so all you can do is farm with him and hope your team can kite him in fights. i hate nasus because of how linear his gameplay is but whatever some bad kids need an easy champion to climb with i guess.
