A frequent mistake I see people make is not expecting enemies to have a kit

The most notorious example is probably Ivern. He's a silly ol' tree, so he seems weak, but he can cast a pretty strong shield pretty frequently. This gives him much more effective health than his health bar and armor/MR would suggest. This occurs to a lesser degree with all shielding champs: unless the shield is very visually noticeable, like a non-generic shield or a very large shield, people don't count it. Oh, that enemy is almost dead! Just one more hit! But then they shield. Break through it or wait. But by the time it's gone, they've regenerated a bit of health and have time to do other things, like reposition or CC you. And by the time that's worn off... maybe the shield is ready again. You might not actually have an opportunity for "one more hit."

Another example is Olaf. Sometimes he has low health. Generally, it takes more work to finish off a low-health enemy than a high-health enemy. But Olaf's attack speed increases as his health goes down, and he has an ability that gives him lifesteal. So as you try to finish him off, he starts hitting you more, and his health stays low (because you're hitting him) but he doesn't actually die (because he's sustaining with lifesteal). This results in people having a wonderful time poking Olaf and watching his health bar fade away, followed by going in and trying to actually kill him, and then instead getting killed by him because his health just kind of stopped going down.

Other examples include standing near walls vs Barn, Ornn, or Vayne; standing near minions vs Neeko or Yasuo; and focusing a champ with a death passive like Karthus or Sion.

I'd say a big part of the reason that pros are pros is because they're a lot better at not just using their own kits, and not just knowing champion kits, but also being mindful of what enemies are capable of beyond autoattacks. I saw a Sneaky clip a while back where he was playing Ashe and kiting a Yasuo, and he was carefully watching what Yasuo was doing, including how many Q stacks he had. When Yasuo fired off a whirlwind, Sneaky was expecting it and Flashed right past it for a kill. Many players would be taken completely by surprise that an enemy did a thing, and would have to rely entirely on their reaction time to that Q3.

to be fair, not many people expect anything from an Ivern. And to be even fairer, I can´t blame them too much for it. Similar to Bard, Ivern players are either absolute masterminds or just dead weight. It´s the coinflipiest of all coinflips that makes the shaco syndrome pale in comparison.

the question that still haunts me:

"did I choose to become a bard main so that it´s impossible for me to have a Bard as my teammate or did I choose to become a bard main to secretly troll my teammates just like the bards I fear?"

Ivern is similar to Lee Sin.

  • He can Q someone and dash to them, only the Q also roots, and the dash can be used by him or an ally.
  • He can shield himself or an ally.
  • He has a PBAoE slow, only it can also be cast from an ally's location.
  • His ult can knock up multiple enemies given proper positioning.

Key differences:

  • He can't dash to allies.
  • He has low autoattack damage out of brush.
  • He can take a camp instantly with Smite.
  • He is the opposite of an edgelord.

"PBAoE" Peanut Butter Area of Effect?

Point Blank Area of Effect, an AoE centered around the player.

Yeah never stand by a wall when barn is nearby, that guy's e summons a charging barnyard bull running straight at you, and if it rams you against a wall it does 50% max hp true damage. Crazy stuff...

Also don't forget poppy+walls

I only inspected my post for "Barn" after reading your reply three times. I guess I did write that.

I'm gonna leave it there.

I feel you, but with Flash. The number of times I've come in to gank while a fight is going on, both people are low health, my top laner safe at the moment. I come in to secure the kill, Top laner turns back and gets closer. Enemy Top laner flashes and insta-gibs them. I get the kill, but I can't help but shake my head at it.

And the number of times I've had any fight with Yas, he's low, has tornado up, gets a guaranteed ult on the ally laner each time.

item 3165 item 3033 and defenses are helpful vs champs that sustain though damage dealing. item 3075 has anti-olaf written all over it.

As someone who plays alot of ornn, my enemy laners really don’t respect him and are shocked about the damage and cc he can deal to them.

I will admit, one of my biggest issues in dueling is I think ahead about how I can use my abilities to counteract what the enemy can do to me if they jump on me. But I frequently fail to consider how they can use their abilities to turn the fight on me if I'm the one that goes aggressive.

I get that, I respect pretty much every champion (even the one I consider "braindead"). In my last game I was playing Swain and the enemy Top Vayne though I was an easy kill, so she flashed on me when I was running away from enemies, only to make her regret that decision, blowing my entire combo and killing her without much problem (at that time It was late game and I was 8/2 with 3 completed items), even with the healing of Soraka still didn't kill me. Just because I'm a battle mage doesn't mean I can't kill you fast enough. Hate people like that (or the champion (Vayne) in particular)...

Illaoi is the #1 of example of this, even in diamond people will see her grab your soul into a nest of 3 tentacles and think they should go in
