Open Letter to Riot

Hey Riot,

We have reached a time were I think its important to start making some serious decisions, as well as having some serious discussions about the future of league. Players are getting increasingly more frustrated by your standpoint of Khazix "change is good". And I agree it (change) is, however, the change which has been repeatedly attempted and forced on us, the players, is that of unbalance. These changes are not made with the intention of balancing the game, these changes are specifically made for the sake of change. "runes reforged is the most recent one". Change in and of itself IS good. However change must have a purpose, and the purpose to simply change things imho is the worst purpose of all changes. It results in shitty gameplay for us, the players, as well as resulting in the game feeling extremely restrictive and unbalanced. I do not believe that the game feeling 'fresh' is a good excuse for some of the worst gameplay experience I have ever experienced in my life.

This isnt to say that everything you guys do is bad. I personally feel like some of the changes being made are actually very good, or as good as can be done considering the restraints you have placed on yourself. But the changes which have been repeatedly added into the game without ever stopping to consider how the game is being effected has reached a point where we, as the community, don't even understand which way is up most of the time. People in the community are screaming that there is a problem. I do not know what it is, I do not know how to fix it. But I want to challenge you to do just that. Fix the problem. It feels to me that you, riot, as a company, dont have a single clue where your going. Years ago when I played this game, the patch notes came out and the addressed issues that I could see in the game. Irelia was overpowered so she got nerfed. And then she got nerfed again. (its a meme i know, and it wasnt that bad) but, the point is, I could see the changes and I could correlate them to what was happening in the game. I may not have always agreed with them, but they were very straight forward changes.

I feel like we are circling in a toilet where instead of balancing the game, we are playing a desperate game of trying to ride the teeter totter of chaos and mayhem until the fucker flips on us, And instead of trying to fix everything right there, we instead shake up the entire universe to cover up the fact that the teeter totter flipped. Like the state of league is in a desperate state of catching up. And its moving so damn quick we have no fucking clue how to begin to catch up. Everytime there is an outrage about something, it seems like something twice as catastrophic happens just to cover up that last awful decision.

I love this game. I don't have the words to describe exactly how this game has kept me sane at certain times. But please riot, FULL STOP. Can you please consider stopping. Just hit the brakes and lets get our heads above water. Stop the champions, stop the reverts, stop the relaunches. stop everything and balance the game. Make it your goal to get as many champions viable in the next year. Or the next two years. Stop adding so much that its realistically never even a consideration.

There are hundreds of ways you can keep the game fresh which dont include more champions. More reworks. more reverts.

You can make new maps. (imho if lcs had a map pool I would be 97% more likely to watch it) You can balance the champions so I have 50 champions I can play instead of 3. Probably 2. You can balance team compositions so I have more then 1 avenue to win the game. I have different stratigic decision. I have to react to different decisions. You can add 400 new items. You can force every one to be unique. Hell you can make tons of items which would be OP together but cannot be purchased together. Hell you can make class specific items so ezreal doesnt keep breaking them. You can add 3 new rune paths, You can add 7 new keystones to each path. you can add influence points as a stat for supports so they can have cool items that wont scale with mages.

You can start a 3v3 lcs for twisted treeline and give that map some love. You can add more permenant game modes (back in the day there were tons of players who wanted a capture the flag map)

My point is, The goal here should be good gameplay for us. (i dont wanna be selfish but we kinda pay your bills). I spent over my lifetime around 1100 -1500 dollars on this game. I dont regret a cent. Because when I spent that money I made the decision that I would support you. So i bought shit. Because I loved the game. Your customers will come through for you. We will buy skins. We will buy anouncer packs. (if you make them) we will buy shit because we want you to keep giving us the game we love, If you stop fucking it up and fix it for us.

Idk if anyone is gonna read this or not, but I had to get this off my chest. With the way this game is headed I don't see myself playing for another year. I have played this game for 9 years, and this comment alone, is the most honest, and the most heartbreaking comment in this thread.

TLDR: I don't want to leave, I just need a reason to stay.

100% agreed. Only thing that's keeping me here is the fact that all my friends play this and I don't like fortnite.

The moment a cheap/free game we can all play together comes along that's epic, we'll all be jumping ship.

More and more posts like this come up every day, vets all deciding they may quit. This game needs balance, fairness and fun, yet none of these things are prioritised. Riot are still yet to do anything other than mindless changes.

I sent this post to a friend who quit many moons ago, I wanted to share his comment for others to see, Riot included. Because I agree very much so with all that is said...

"It is basically what I've been saying/thinking since about 2015.. :P

I quit for several reasons, and that was one of them. Change with a solid purpose is fine, it's what DotA2 does even if you don't like it. Change for the sake of change is just... weak justification, if it can be called that. Change with a purpose allows you to more carefully police the results of your changes, whereas changing things just to change things lets problems like Power Creep grow out of control.

Remember when tanks didn't do much damage outside of niche circumstances? I do, and those days are dead because of wanton unchecked power creep forcing them to do damage or be left behind while a Bruiser does their job. Remember when Assassins typically had crap wave clear so their early game was bad enough to take advantage of? I do, before the likes of Zed, the LeBlanc rework and the Fizz changes hit that largely erased that weakness. To say nothing of Ekko who has good wave clear, was built to be an assassin but was provided the tools to be a tank on demand, tools which were never removed or changed.

Riot has proven they don't actually know where they're taking the ship of League anymore. They got turned around in a storm and forgot how to read the stars to point them home or to their destination, forcing to drift aimlessly. Are they balancing for casual play? No, Ryze and Azir alone prove that casual play isn't a focus. So pro play? No, pub stars receiving nerfs despite never being picked in pro play is proof of that. So who are they aiming for? Who is their target to balance for? We can't even theorycraft balance until we know that, but they don't tell anyone, and doing a half-and-half system benefits neither party.

This isn't mentioning other reasons I quit despite enjoying the game for the most part."

You're right. They have absolutely no idea what they're doing or why they're doing it. Look at Zac, hovering at 50% for a couple of years with 2-4% play rate. Out of all the issues to address in this game, someone at Riot decides that this is the biggest problem. They change the entire identity of the character by overloading him with cc, stripping absolutely every piece of damage possible, and make him a support who jungles. They spent time and resources to rework something that didn't need it, over tune it, then nerf it over and over and over, and now he's a Solo Queue troll pick at 46%. They're actually actively working to create new problems that didn't exist, instead of fixing problems that have existed for far too long.

I'm with you on new maps/modes too. Why aren't we allowed to play URF, One For All, etc when we want? Why is TT an outdated dumpster fire? I get that Riot wants us only playing LC$ Simulator like the pros do, but some of us just straight up don't give a shit about competitive play, or have aspirations to 'play what the pros do'. An entire genre created from a custom game, and the biggest game in that genre doesn't allow freedom to play custom games. That's some shit right there.

Yeah leave champions already in the game alone rito, if you are competent you should be able to balance them in half a season maximum, then leave them alone

Recently they nerfed Jannas shield wtf suddenly Janna unplayable, -1 champion / 2 that I even played

Change is good, but there is too much chaos.

Yea rito take an extended vacation or some shit these frequent changes aren't healthy.

Saibbo6/6/2018, 11:02:39 PM1 votes

Riot want to implement new champions? Literally just balance all ~50 champions that i never see in my games anymore because they just s - k a - s.

I think they need to change really quickly some people, starting with who messed up the most in this last year. It may sounds rude, but it's just what a normal company should do if results keep being so bad.
