New ranked system feels pretty bad

Destruction19··2 votes·3,603 views

why is it that i am restricted to play one role if i wanna climb in ranked. at this point tf is even the need for autofill if i constantly have to keep playing mid if I wanna improve my rank. Honestly this was like some desperate attempt to change the game up but I feel that it just destroyed what ranked was in the first place. Just hoping they revert it next season :(

  1. It's getting reverted.

  2. You actually climb far faster as Fill than you ever did in previous ladders, because of how Splash works, and more consistently. More games. But more RELIABLY climb.

Get ready to get back to 17 LP gain/17 LP loss 50% win rates, because that's what's coming back.

Right now..... most people are pulling 55-60% or better, because of how position ranking worked.

How do you not understand the entire message?

Both examples: You end up playing 1000-1500 games.

Single Role: You treadmill, pulling off 50-55% because 1) you're pulling the average of a specific champ/small group of champs in a role versus other people of similar skill doing the same. 2) LP gains/losses change more dramatically, resulting in 10 loss streaks punishing you more than a 10 win streak does.

Fill: You are playing versus players who on average are slightly worse than you, and on a higher than average frequency, if you are competent, you can turn these games into wins. Your win rate is about 60-65%, but your climb is slower. But it's more reliable, because LP Gain/Loss does NOT fluctuate, you gain larger splash. Even if you average the same 50-55%, you will consistently CLIMB, which will not happen on the same win rate as a single role player.

I understood it, it's just stupid.

You're implying that people want to learn all five roles and that they want to learn multiple champions for all 5 roles.

Not only that, by not climbing fast and quickly matching against (relatively) good players, you automatically lose the advantage of having to test and rebuild your strategies to compete with these players. This competition drives people to climb even further, and without it you're just looking for an easy climb up a tier or 2 w/o any significant gains or growth.

Also, there are very few people who can go play 1000-1500 games. I've NEVER hit 1000 in a season myself and I play a lot.

First of all, with the reversion, autofill will be a HELLUVA lot more punishing now, since you will now lose as much LP for your entire rank, instead of the off role you were dumped in. This means you will damage your overall growth in your desired role.

For instance, I main support. I'm good at it. I'm not the greatest at other roles. So when I get filled in to like jungle, for example, I'm ok with taking a hit to my LP in the jungle if I lose, and a 3 LP hit to support. What I'm NOT ok with is taking a 17 LP hit to my main role (support) when I lose in jungle, which is what the old system allowed for. I'm not trying to grow or have gains in the jungle or any other role other than support, so I'm not ok with any role other than support applying significant losses to my main role. Having that buffer between your main role and your off roles isn't an "easy climb" or some missing test of skill, or a loss of significant gains or growth. It's protecting my personal ranking in my main role so I'm not so harmed by off roles. So yes, I will rank up faster in my main role for this reason - but that's the role I play. I SHOULD be ranked specifically on my main role, and not damaged heavily for losses in roles I'm not experienced in.

Your whole argument that you're somehow a worse player in the new system is utter tripe, because the new system doesn't do anything except buffer your main role with added protection against losses in off roles. If anything, you will get to a much more accurate ranking in the new system BECAUSE you're being specifically ranked by your main role. So as a support, I can pretty much rank up to where my skills are as a support much quicker, and hit my plateau, wherever it may be without being held back by extraneous losses. I'm not missing growth, I'm not missing impactful learning experiences. I'm bypassing all of the slog and swamp to get to the point where I CAN learn and grow with the game, and actually improve my performance, rather than rinse-and-repeat through the same messes over and over again.

You're missing 2 really important points

  1. Your chance of getting autofilled, especially in low elos, is really quite low. You're also able to dodge on the rare occasion if you get put in that scenario so you'd still be only losing -3.

  2. The new ranked system is bad because while it's only -3 for you, it's -16-20 for everyone else since you're instantly going to lose. It just makes the person getting offroled feel a little better emotionally at the cost of everyone else.

As for what I was saying, you completely missed the point, but that's to be expected since boards isn't very clever, just argumentative.

What I was saying is that this system encourages only growth in a single skill or role over filling because if there aren't significant punishments for getting autofilled you can be like, "Okay I'll just take the hit to my main role LP." and you're decentivized from learning the role. On top of that, instead of filling most people would rather grow the single skill, immediately plateau, and get to overcoming that plateau and growing in that skill.

So you go farther and farther ahead in that role with no need to learn anything else. Nobody I know wants to grind out and suffer loss after loss just to see growth in a role they normally don't play. Nobody wants to spend a ton of games they don't need. They'll want to climb as soon and efficiently as possible, and the new system rewards that over overall skill.

In addition to Oleander's comment, which is a Valid point:

Listen to yourself. You're saying that someone shouldn't learn more champions/roles, but SHOULD learn to fight against stronger players quicker? Both are forms of learning, and one will definitely make you a better player; the other is just going to make you frustrated and believe in a skill cap that doesn't actually exist, because you get introduced to higher elo players before you are ready for them.

You really are naive if you think common players do not play 1000-1500 games. We're only in March, and most players already have over 300. Most of my casual friends have 150+ right now, and they play about 70% of their games in Norms.

You have enough time in a year to play about 16,425 games. 1500 is the equivalent of spending 2.2 hours a day playing League of Legends.

Strangely enough it took me 3-4 months to get back into gold last season with me playing a lot more often and i am already near series into G3 with casual play. Overall Definitely climbing a lot faster but like the poster above me said its already being reverted so making posts about it is just about the most pointless thing you could do.

didn't know that thanks. I was seriously about to quit with this new one

Illabethe2 votes

So you don't like climbing fast?

Illabethe3 votes

This is what frustrates me. People who complained against the system are eating their own.

It's literally far easier to climb and get Gold right now than in any previous season. Yet...... they are complaining that it's harder, and actually BELIEVE it.

And they are going to get their way...... and not like the outcome. Such Fun.

Meh. I like to rotate based on feeders. If I've got 3 useless jungles I a row, I opt for jungle. Bad adcs, I opt for adc. If I'm playing garbage mid, I hop to another role. It's super lame that we can't do that currently. Hitting gold is faster this time around because of the new provisional, not bc of the position ranks.

The fact we had to deal with dynamic queue for a year and this mess for only a couple of months is indicative of how ass this system really is.

Illabethe2 votes
  1. You do have the option to trade. I'm sorry you don't use it. I do it :S.

  2. I disagree. In about 2 months, I've went from Bronze II on this account to almost Silver II, and that's through just Queueing Fill, and after Provisionals. For the first 100 games, I literally had a 70% win rate.

Then I got about 40 games or trolls/inters. Somehow, I'm still climbing, even though it was slowed.

If I was just playing Mid or Support or Jungle, I'd be Gold by now.

In Season 6-8, I'd probably still be treading Silver V or so, simply because of how LP gains work in single account ranking.

Flawless Fetus1 votes

True. You have the option. It just doesn't help you climb. Lol. If I'm p3 mid, and g3 adc, playing bot isn't going to help me hit diamond. Part of me wants to believe your claim that this isn't absolute garbage at lower elos, but considering that most of the player base is low elo, and they're still going to revert this shit system, I'm not able to believe it. Lol.

Autofill in Ranked is just punishment. And it doesn't accomplish its goal "lower queue times" because people drop lobby last second, rage quitting about being filled because nobody would trade or someone stole someone else's role because of autofill. I've had longer queue times after they incorporated the role-select system. I don't even remember the original game type that started that.. but remember the icons we got? Fighter.support..etc.

i made an account to get into iron 5, and i couldnt do it. i even tried every role and lowest i landed was like bronze 3. makes it worst if you win a single time you get like 80 rating and then never lose rating on losses lol.

Is this ironic? Iron 5 doesn't exist. There are only 4 divisions now.
