Calculating Gold value of Runes? Efficiency early or late game?
I don't play a whole lot of ranked so I do not know the true value of Runes and how efficient some may be early game or late game. Anyone ever done the math? Here is something I did about a year ago...
Last year while comparing my girlfriend's and my runes I did a little bit of math to see the gold value of our pages. She claimed scaling was far more important than flat runes and I argued against claiming that early game advantage is far better than late game advantage.
I broke down our rune pages based on initial gold value vs final gold value using scaling and flat runes. Here are some of my values:
Base Values 1 Armor = 20 Gold 1 Magic Resist = 20 Gold 1 HP = 2.67 Gold 1 AD = 36 Gold 1 AP = 21.75 Gold 1% Attack Speed = 30 Gold 1% Life Steal = 88 Gold 1 Movement Speed = 13 Gold 1 Armor Pen = 26.2 Gold 1 Magic Pen = 27.19 Gold 1% CDR = 18.33 Gold
NEW: May still need tweaking 50 HP / 5 sec = 0.7 Gold / HP / 5 sec 33.33 Mana / 5 sec = 1.1 Gold / Mana / 5 sec
I got these values using simple ratios of early buyable items such as Cloth Armor, Ruby Crystals, etc. I believe that when I compared late game items their values dropped off a bit or their efficiency decreased, but gained passives which some don't have gold values.
Using these values I made some spreadsheets to compare how much "gold value" you get at the start using flat or scaling runes.
Starting Gold Advantage for Flat Runes 9x AD Marks = 307.8 9x Armor Pen Marks = 301.8 9x Magic Pen Marks = 212.9 9x Attack Speed Marks = 459 9x Flat Armor Marks = 163.8 9x Flat Armor Seals = 180 9x Flat HP Seals = 192.2 9x AP Glyphs = 232.9 9x Flat MR Glyphs = 241.2 9x Flat CDR Glyphs = 136.9 3x Flat AD Quints = 243 3x Flat HP Quints = 208.3 3x Attack Speed Quints = 405 3x Life Steal Quints = 396 3x Flat AP Quints = 323 3x Movement Speed Quints = 198.9 (Using 340 MS as average)
**Note: I only added the runes I use, not every single rune. **
Final Gold Value for Scaling Runes 9x Scale Armor Seals @ Level 18 = 518.4 9x Scale CDR Glyphs @ Level 18 = 275.5 9x Scale MR Glyphs @ Level 18 = 518.4 9x Scale AP Glyphs @ Level 18 = 599 9x Scale AD Marks @ Level 18 = 758.2
Something interesting that I didn't include at the time I made my initial spreadsheet were some of my newer runes such as the HP / 5 and Mana / 5.
There aren't many ways to get a gold value for them since most HP regen and Mana regen items including the starting ones work off of % base health. Only way to work out the gold efficiency that way is to get the average base health of a champion at level 1. I don't want to do this so instead I am using the only thing we now have that still works similar, that is Health and Mana pots.
9x HP / 5 sec Seals = 3.5 Gold / 5 sec = 42.3 Gold / Min (423 Gold / 10 min) 9x Mana / 5 sec Seals = 3.9 Gold / 5 sec = 46.5 Gold / Min (465 Gold / 10 min)
These runes are very hard to evaluate but you can see some benefit as they pay themselves off over time. In an average game of 30 min (Summoner's Rift), they have the following values.
9x HP / 5 sec Seals = 1270 Gold 9x Mana / 5 sec Seals = 1395 Gold
Not bad, right? I am open to suggestions if anyone has ever done any of this. A cool way to use information like this is when evaluating your Rune page gold values using initial and final gold efficiency.
What is your most efficient rune page? How much extra gold does it give you at the start/end?
