Why Zed didn't get the ultimate skin~

Because then he'd have to be nerfed before and/or after the release of the skin, as is tradition.

And we all know how Riot would never willingly give us another reason why Zed should be nerfed.

Here's basically how it probably went down..

Riot #1: "Okay, we gotta give an ultimate skin to someone. Who will it be? Riot #2 "I vote for Zed. He's such a fun champ, I'm sure a lot of people would get it." Riot #3 "But you know ... if too many people play him, we'd probably have to nerf him. Because, logic." Riot #1 "Zed is one of the most healthy champions in our roster. He's not getting nerfed!" Riot #2 "Well ... who can we nerf hard that isn't meant for LC$ Big Plays? Riot #1 "... I'll start working on a Sona skin, immediately."

Ok, that is probably how it actually went down.

Read the DJ Sona QA page. You'll have to search a bit but the real answer is there. Someone asked and got an answer for this question. If you want a summary Riot was more excited for the Sona skin concept they had sitting around than the zed one and they make skins based on this.

Riot says a lot.

Not all of it is something I'd personally take at face value.

Example: "We'll be compensating Veigar with buffs for the removal of DFG." They then butcher his stun.

I mean, if you're going to tin foil EVERYTHING, you may as well not play the game at all. Chances are, the idea for the Sona skin came out much better than any other ideas. So they rolled with it.

Also, Udyr was buffed pretty decently before SGU came out. So either you mean to say they're starting a new tradition, which is a fallacy since we only have one instance, or you're just kind of wrong.

Riot literally said they were moving things around for Sona (aka nerfs) because they knew she was going to get a lot more play-time with people with her Ultimate release. Maybe "tradition" wasn't the right word, but it doesn't change the fact.
